A moment problem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Australian Mathematical Society, 1965
Let ν be a discrete random variable taking on nonnegative integer values and set P{ν = κ} = Pk, κ = 0, 1, hellip. Suppose that the binomial moments are finite. Frequently the problem arises under what conditions the probabilities Pk, k = 0, 1,…, can be determined uniquely by the sequence of moments Br, r = 0, 1,…, and how it can be done.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

GMM Redundancy Results for General Missing Data Problems [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider questions of efficiency and redundancy in the GMM estimation problem in which we have two sets of moment conditions, where two sets of parameters enter into one set of moment conditions, while only one set of parameters enters into the other.

On the analytic form of the discrete Kramer sampling theorem

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2001
The classical Kramer sampling theorem is, in the subject of self-adjoint boundary value problems, one of the richest sources to obtain sampling expansions. It has become very fruitful in connection with discrete Sturm-Liouville problems.

Subjectivity and existential problems in 'The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge' by Reiner Maria Rilke, and in 'A Moment of True Feeling' by Peter Handke

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Litteraria Polonica, 2016
This article analyses The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge (1910) by Rainer Maria Rilke and A Moment of True Feeling (1975) by Peter Handke, aiming to demonstrate that the protagonists of the two works are trying to overcome existential problems through

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Moment-SoS Methods for Optimal Transport Problems [PDF]

open access: yes
International audienceMost common Optimal Transport (OT) solvers are currently based on an approximation of underlying measures by discrete measures. However, it is sometimes relevant to work only with moments of measures instead of the measure itself ...

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Adult Learning in STEM Disciplines

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are reshaping adult learning in STEM by providing adaptive, data‐driven instruction across classrooms, workplaces, and informal environments. In the context of ITS, this article compares generative AI, which creates personalized explanations and practice materials, with explainable AI, which focuses on ...

Estimation of Nonparametric Conditional Moment Models With Possibly Nonsmooth Generalized Residuals [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies nonparametric estimation of conditional moment models in which the generalized residual functions can be nonsmooth in the unknown functions of endogenous variables. This is a nonparametric nonlinear instrumental variables (IV) problem.
