Moment-to-moment dynamics of ADHD behaviour [PDF]

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Functions, 2005
Abstract Background The behaviour of children with Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder is often described as highly variable, in addition to being hyperactive, impulsive and inattentive. One reason might be that they do not acquire complete and functional sequences of behaviour. The dynamic developmental theory

Renormalization of divergent moment in probability theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Some probability distributions have moments, and some do not. For example, the normal distribution has power moments of arbitrary order, but the Cauchy distribution does not have power moments. In this paper, by analogy with the renormalization method in quantum field theory, we suggest a renormalization scheme to remove the divergence in divergent ...

Moments of moments of primes in arithmetic progressions

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, 2023
AbstractWe establish unconditional ‐results for all weighted even moments of primes in arithmetic progressions. We also study the moments of these moments and establish lower bounds under the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH). Finally, under GRH and the Linear Independence Hypothesis (LI), we prove an asymptotic for all moments of the associated ...

Moments in Time [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2011
It has been suggested that perception and action can be understood as evolving in temporal epochs or sequential processing units. Successive events are fused into units forming a unitary experience or "psychological present." Studies have identified several temporal integration levels on different time scales which are fundamental for our understanding

On moments of a polytope [PDF]

open access: yesAnalysis and Mathematical Physics, 2018
We show that the multivariate generating function of appropriately normalized moments of a measure with homogeneous polynomial density supported on a compact polytope P in R^d is a rational function. Its denominator is the product of linear forms dual to the vertices of P raised to the power equal to the degree of the density function.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Multi-beam Energy Moments of Multibeam Particle Velocity Distributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
High resolution electron and ion velocity distributions, f(v), which consist of N effectively disjoint beams, have been measured by NASA's Magnetospheric Multi-Scale Mission (MMS) observatories and in reconnection simulations. Commonly used standard velocity moments generally assume a single mean-flow-velocity for the entire distribution, which can ...

Moments of the Gaussian Chaos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper deals with Lata{\l}a's estimation of the moments of Gaussian chaoses. It is shown that his argument can be simplified significantly using Talagrand's generic chaining.Comment: 12 pages, file might be slightly different from the published ...

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Sum rules for baryon decuplet magnetic moments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In chiral models with SU(3) group structure, baryon decuplet and octet magnetic moments are evaluated by constructing their sum rules to yield theoretical predictions. In these sum rules we exploit six experimentally known baryon magnetic moments.
