Moments of Inertia

2016
Moments of Inertia are used in beam theories (cf. Volume 2). Moments of second order of an area A, as for example of a cross sectional area of a beam, are defined as follows.

Variational approach to the moment of inertia

Physical Review C, 1980
We derive an approximate expression for the moment of inertia theta in the framework of the cranked Hartree-Fock theory. Our method allows for a detailed study of the role of spin-orbit and two-body nuclear potentials. In particular it is shown that in /sup 20/Ne the two-body interaction lowers by 30% the rigid value of theta.

The Moments of Inertia of some Polyhedra

The Mathematical Gazette, 1958
The values of the Radii of Gyration have been worked out for some solid polyhedra, polyhedra with faces only, (shell or box-like), polyhedra with edges only (skeleton), polyhedra with vertices only. The results are given in the tables.

Note on Electromagnetic Moment of Inertia

American Journal of Physics, 1951
It is shown that the angular momentum of the stationary electromagnetic field surrounding a classical charged particle may be considered to be localized in the charge distribution. When the magnetic field is considered to be due to rotation of the charge, there exists a moment of inertia tensor relating the angular momentum of the field and the energy ...

The growth of children??s moment of inertia

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1986
As children grow, their moments of inertia increase. The magnitude and timing of these changes can affect the rotations of the body. The present study evaluated inter-individual differences in the transverse centroidal moment of inertia for 12 boys between 5 and 16 yr, using intra-individual data from three successive years.

Moment of Inertia by Differentiation

The Physics Teacher, 2015
The calculation of the moment of inertia of an extended body, as presented in standard introductory-level textbooks, involves the evaluation of a definite integral—an operation often not fully mastered by beginners, let alone the conceptual difficulties it presents, even to the advanced student, in understanding and setting up the integral in the first
