A survey of IUCN Bear Specialist Group (BSG) members revealed that habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation is the greatest threat to each of the 7 species of terrestrial bears. Poaching and human–bear conflicts are also high threats for some of these species.

Impact of Geography on Institutions in Agricultural and Nomadic Societies

Rulers compete through choosing tax rates, the level of military spending, and the degree of formality of institutions. Geographic condition is captured by population density.

Lectotypifications and taxonomic changes in the holoparasitic Orobanchaceae
Based on further extensive studies of specimens in various herbaria, lectotypes are designated for many taxa of holoparasitic Orobanchaceae. In particular, 47 names in the genera Boschniakia (incl. Xylanche), Cistanche, Orobanche, Phelipanche and Phelypaea are lectotypified.
