Physiological monitoring of the Olympic athlete
Journal of Sports Sciences, 2009As the winning margin in Olympic competition is so small, there is a continuous quest for improvements in the preparation of athletes at this standard. Therefore, even the smallest physiological improvements that result from modifications in training strategy, preparation regime or ergogenic aids are potentially useful.

Continuous Ketone Monitoring: A New Paradigm for Physiologic Monitoring
Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, 2021In this issue of JDST, Alva and colleagues present for the first time, development of a continuous ketone monitor (CKM) tested both in vitro and in humans. Their sensor measured betahydroxybutyrate (BHB) in interstitial fluid (ISF). The sensor was based on wired enzyme electrochemistry technology using BHB dehydrogenase.

Physiologic Monitoring of Combat Casualties
Military Medicine, 1989We discuss general concepts and organization of combat casualty care. We identify important issues regarding physiologic monitoring of combat casualties and examine inherent limitations of this monitoring. Effective and practical techniques for monitoring the cardiovascular, pulmonary, central nervous, renal, and coagulation systems are presented in ...

Remote Continuous Physiological Monitoring in the Home
Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, 1996As part of a larger study we established a remote physiological monitoring network to investigate cardiorespiratory function during sleep in 400 infants in their homes. The objective of the study was to link measurements made at three weeks and three months of age with detailed measurements of maternal and fetal nutrition during pregnancy and ...

Occupational Therapy In Health Care, 1984
Many patients with physical disabilities are limited by poor endurance. This could be due to the level of deconditioning, the disease or injury, andtor the demands of the activities they must per- form. Occupational therapists historically have been involved in the study of energy cost of activities and have used such concepts in pre- scribing activity

Abstract Remote physiologic monitoring (RPM) allows for the collection and transmission of clinical information from a patient to a clinician for evaluation (and potentially intervention) in a synchronous or asynchronous manner. The initiation and judicious utilization of RPM is fundamental to distance-based medical care and provides ...

Smart Wireless Sensor for Physiological Monitoring
2015Presented is a wireless body sensor capable of measuring local potential differences on a body surface. By using on-sensor signal processing capabilities, and developed algorithms for off-line signal processing on a personal computing device, it is possible to record single channel ECG, heart rate, breathing rate, EMG, and when three sensors are ...

WAP in physiological monitoring
2001 Conference Proceedings of the 23rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2005Summary form only given. Many parties have already practised telemedicine using cellular phones and the Internet. A current trend in telecommunication is the convergence of wireless communication and computer network technologies. Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) device is an example.

Physiological Monitoring of Stereotactic Biopsy
Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, 1985It is helpful to have direct confirmation during a CT-guided stereotactic procedure that the intended target has been reached without operating under imaging. This can be simply accomplished with readily available equipment by serial monitoring of electrical impedance as a probe is directed to the target because the impedance of hematomas, cysts, and ...

Some Problems of Physiological Monitoring
1965Measurement of the physiological responses of an astronaut to the conditions of space flight may be employed for clinical or for experimental purposes, although no clear distinction between the two is usually attempted. The primary object of the former is the detection and diagnosis of disease or frank illness; the ultimate purpose is to ascertain the ...
