Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitory Constituents of Propolis: Kinetics and Mechanism of Inhibition of Recombinant Human MAO-A and MAO-B

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
Propolis is the resinous material that bees gather from leaf buds, flowers and vegetables. Propolis extracts contain constituents with a broad spectra of pharmacological properties and are important ingredients of popular dietary supplements.

STUDY MOLECULES DOCKING OF ALKALOIDS IN KRATOM ON SEROTONIN TRANSPORTER (SERT), NOREPINEPHRINE TRANSPORTER (NET), AND MONOAMINE OXIDASE (MAO)

open access: yesJurnal Kimia Riset, 2023
Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa Korth) is a tropical plant originating from Southeast Asia that predominantly contains alkaloid compounds and can potentially maintain levels of monoamine compounds in the body to treat depression.

Leflunomide, a Reversible Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor

open access: yesCentral Nervous System Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, 2016
A screening study aimed at identifying inhibitors of the enzyme, monoamine oxidase (MAO), among clinically used drugs have indicated that the antirheumatic drug, leflunomide, is an inhibitor of both MAO isoforms. Leflunomide inhibits human MAO-A and MAO-B and exhibits IC50 values of 19.1 μM and 13.7 μM, respectively.

Platelet monoamine oxidase activity in alcoholics with and without a family history of alcoholism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A number of studies point at platelet monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity being reduced in alcoholics with a family history of drinking, this being a possible vulnerability marker for alcoholism.

Peripheral modulation of antidepressant targets MAO-B and GABAAR by harmol induces mitohormesis and delays aging in preclinical models

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Reversible and sub-lethal stresses to the mitochondria elicit a program of compensatory responses that ultimately improve mitochondrial function, a conserved anti-aging mechanism termed mitohormesis.

G protein-coupled receptor kinase-2 (GRK-2) regulates serotonin metabolism through the monoamine oxidase AMX-2 in Caenorhabditis elegans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) regulate many animal behaviors. GPCR signaling is mediated by agonist-promoted interactions of GPCRs with heterotrimeric G proteins, GPCR kinases (GRKs), and arrestins.

Site-specific expression of amine oxidases in breast cancer metastases

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2018
We aimed to evaluate the expression of amine oxidase-related proteins in metastatic breast cancer tissue and determine its clinical implication. A tissue microarray was constructed from a total of 126 metastatic breast tumors (31 bone metastases (24.6%),

Functional and Biogenetical Heterogeneity of the Inner Membrane of Rat-Liver Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Rat liver mitochondria were fragmented by a combined technique of swelling, shrinking, and sonication. Fragments of inner membrane were separated by density gradient centrifugation.

The Antidepressant-like Effect of Flavonoids from Trigonella Foenum-Graecum Seeds in Chronic Restraint Stress Mice via Modulation of Monoamine Regulatory Pathways

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Fenugreek (Trigonella Foenum-Graecum) seeds flavonoids (FSF) have diverse biological activities, while the antidepressant-like effect of FSF has been seldom explored.

Benzo[b]tiophen-3-ol derivatives as effective inhibitors of human monoamine oxidase: design, synthesis, and biological activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A series of benzo[b]thiophen-3-ols were synthesised and investigated as potential human monoamine oxidase (hMAO) inhibitors in vitro as well as ex vivo in rat cortex synaptosomes by means of evaluation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid/dopamine (DOPAC/DA)
