Research on monocentric model of urbanization by agent-based simulation

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Over the past years, GIS have been widely used for modeling urbanization from a variety of perspectives such as digital terrain representation and overlay analysis using cell-based data platform. Similarly, simulation of urban dynamics has been achieved with the use of Cellular Automata.

Selection bias and land development in the monocentric city model

Journal of Urban Economics, 1992
The land development process implied by the monocentric city model is extremely simple. The model, as set forth by Muth [13] and Mills [12], contains no error terms and the city lies on a featureless plain. Land is converted to urban use whenever urban land values rise relative to agricutural land values; the assumptions of the model assure that land ...

The Monocentric Model and Employment Location

Journal of Urban Economics, 1994
Summary: The monocentric urban model highlights the important link between transportation access and urban form. Yet as metropolitan areas have become increasingly multicentric, the monocentric model has been criticized on several levels. This paper tests an important assumption used in many monocentric models -- namely that employment location is ...

Modelling Park-and-Ride Service in a Linear Monocentric City

International Journal of Urban Sciences, 2004
This paper investigates the optimisation problem for the location and pricing of a Park-and-Ride facility in a linear monocentric city. A Logit-based multi-modal user equilibrium model is formulated for the city in the morning rush hours. The Logit approach enables the possibility to model users' sensitivity to the cost differences between modes.

Urban expansion using remote-sensing data and a monocentric urban model

Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, 2019
Abstract The expansion of urban land use is an indispensable tool of urban policy, particularly in developing countries which are facing rapid urbanization. However, most sophisticated spatial-analysis methods used in developed countries are not applicable to developing countries due to the limited availability of spatially-resolved statistical data.

The Chicken and Egg Problem: Obesity and the Urban Monocentric Model

The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, 2019
Recent medical studies have examined ways to offer enhanced spatial planning opportunities to increase a person’s level of physical activity. These studies demonstrate a decreasing prevalence of obesity in denser and less car-oriented communities with mixed land uses.

Modeling Network Growth with Scaling Laws in a Linear Monocentric City

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2014
Scaling relationships have been observed across urban systems and appear to reveal global emergent properties that may help to characterize, understand, and predict urban growth. Empirical urban studies that show scaling laws relating the growth in population to that of the transportation network warrant theoretical investigation.

Suburbanization and transportation in the monocentric model

Journal of Urban Economics, 2007
Abstract This paper presents a version of the monocentric city model that incorporates heterogeneous commuting speeds by introducing radial commuting highways. This model implies that metropolitan area population spreads out along new highways, which are positively valued by residents.

Modelling the Residential Sub-market: Breaking the Monocentric Mould

Urban Studies, 1999
This paper evaluates the performance of a land-rent model which predicts the residential location pattern in a metropolitan centre when suburban land constraints and a polycentric form are incorporated in the household location decision. The model is based on the variables of residential space, accessibility and income and tests different measures for

A Spatial Model Based on Dynamic Rail Commuter Equilibrium in a Monocentric City

2009 International Conference on New Trends in Information and Service Science, 2009
This paper presents a spatial model of rail commuter congestion in a monocentric city to investigate the congestion level on each location along the rail line. A dynamic rail commuter model is formulated to capture the variable crowding environment properties in peak period.
