Leaf Length Predicts Twig Xylem Vessel Diameter Across Angiosperms

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 1330-1339, March 2026.
ABSTRACT As plants grow taller, increasing conductive pathlength imposes hydraulic resistance, challenging the maintenance of water transport to leaves. While tip‐to‐base conduit widening along the stem helps mitigate this resistance, theoretical models and empirical data suggest that stem widening alone is insufficient to fully compensate.

A Youthful Titan Implied by Improved Impact Simulations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract The small number of impact craters found on Titan suggests that its surface is relatively young. Previous work estimated its surface age to be between 200 and 1000 Myr. This estimate, however, is based on crater scaling laws for water and sand, which are not representative of the composition of Titan's icy surface.

Laguna Fuente de Piedra: An example of a dolomite factory recording ~50,000 years of depositional and paleoclimatic evolution

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study characterises carbonate mineral precipitation mechanisms and their paleoenvironmental implications in a semi‐arid, saline playa lake system. SEM image with EDS spectra shows microcrystalline, spherical shaped dolomite crystals from Laguna Fuente de Piedra composed of nanocrystals with bacterial voids and EPS.
