The transcriptomic evolution of mammalian pregnancy:gene expression innovations in endometrial stromal fibroblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The endometrial stromal fibroblast (ESF) is a cell type present in the uterine lining of therian mammals. In the stem lineage of eutherian mammals, ESF acquired the ability to differentiate into decidual cells in order to allow embryo implantation.

Observations on the diet and behaviour of captive Monodelphis (Mygalodelphys) kunsi Pine, 1975 (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) from Paraguay

open access: yesMammalogy Notes, 2018
We report data on the feeding preferences and behaviour of the little known didelphid Monodelphis (Mygalodelphys) kunsi, based on captive observations of a sub-adult female and a presumed sub-adult male.

Experimental infection of Monodelphis domestica with Rickettsia parkeri

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2020
This study aimed to evaluate the infection of the marsupial Monodelphis domestica (the gray short-tailed opossum) by Rickettsia parkeri and its role as an amplifier of the bacterium for Amblyomma ticks. Ten M. domestica males were inoculated with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and 106 Vero cells infected with R. parkeri.

ABCB4 mediates diet-induced hypercholesterolemia in laboratory opossums[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2010
High-responding opossums are susceptible to developing hypercholesterolemia on a high-cholesterol diet, but low-responding opossums are resistant. The observation of low biliary cholesterol and low biliary phospholipids in high responders suggested that ...

Corepressor diversification by alternative mRNA splicing is species specific. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BackgroundSMRT and NCoR are corepressor paralogs that help mediate transcriptional repression by a variety of transcription factors, including the nuclear hormone receptors.

The evolution, distribution and diversity of endogenous circoviral elements in vertebrate genomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Circoviruses (family Circoviridae) are small, non-enveloped viruses that have short, single-stranded DNA genomes. Circovirus sequences are frequently recovered in metagenomic investigations, indicating that these viruses are widespread, yet they remain ...

Visual acuity in the short-tailed opossum (Monodelphis domestica). [PDF]

open access: yesNeuroscience, 2012
Monodelphis domestica (short-tailed opossum) is an emerging animal model for studies of neural development due to the extremely immature state of the nervous system at birth and its subsequent rapid growth to adulthood. Yet little is known about its normal sensory discrimination abilities.
