An investigation of the interaction of N2O with the Si(111)-7 × 7 surface using AES and optical reflectometry; A comparison with O2 [PDF]
At 300 K, N2O decomposes into N2, leaving behind atomic oxygen at the Si(111)¿7 × 7 surface. Decomposition at two different sites is proposed, having the overall initial reaction probability: s(0) = (6.7 ± 0.7) × 106.

Towards Exciton-Polaritons in an Individual MoS2 Nanotube
We measure low-temperature micro-photoluminescence spectra along a MoS 2 nanotube, which exhibit the peaks of the optical whispering gallery modes below the exciton resonance.

Human Cholangiocytes Form a Polarized and Functional Bile Duct on Hollow Fiber Membranes
Liver diseases affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide; most often the hepatocytes or cholangiocytes are damaged. Diseases of the biliary tract cause severe patient burden, and cholangiocytes, the cells lining the biliary tract, are sensitive to ...

Dynamics of a Monolayer of Microspheres on an Elastic Substrate [PDF]
We present a model for wave propagation in a monolayer of spheres on an elastic substrate. The model, which considers sagittally polarized waves, includes: horizontal, vertical, and rotational degrees of freedom; normal and shear coupling between the ...

Ligand-targeted microbubbles are focusing interest for molecular imaging and delivery of chemotherapeutics. Lipid–peptide conjugates (lipopeptides) that feature alternating serine–glycine (SG)n segments rather than classical poly(oxyethylene) linkers ...

Chemoresponsive monolayer transistors [PDF]
This work details a method to make efficacious field-effect transistors from monolayers of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that are able to sense and respond to their chemical environment. The molecules used in this study are functionalized so that they assemble laterally into columns and attach themselves to the silicon oxide surface of a silicon ...

Folding Langmuir Monolayers [PDF]
The maximum pressure a two-dimensional surfactant monolayer is able to withstand is limited by the collapse instability towards formation of three-dimensional material. We propose a new description for reversible collapse based on a mathematical analogy between the formation of folds in surfactant monolayers and the formation of Griffith Cracks in ...
