Geotechnical Design Considerations for Offshore Monopiles

2013
The choice of the foundation for offshore structures is influenced by a number of considerations including the site conditions and loading characteristics. At water depths of up to 25m the most common foundation type is monopiles, which are single steel pipe piles driven open-ended into the soil.

Improved Pile Installation Predictions for Monopiles

2019
As the world transitions toward more sustainable energy sources, there is an increased interest in renewables, with offshore wind well placed to provide significant grid-scale input. Historically, a key limitation has been the cost, with the first offshore wind farms in Europe costing $175 to $250 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The Reverse Approach for Monopile Scour

2012
The present paper deals with the theoretical and numerical modeling of scouring and backfilling around an offshore monopile. Based on existing relations for the bed load and the bed update, and a new model for the sediment pickup, it demonstrates the possibility of computing the mean bed shear stress if the bed and bed update is estimated.
