Gelled liquid oxygen/metal powder monopropellants

28th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1992
Al, Al-80/Mg-20 wt pct, Si, and Fe powders were mixed with LOX and gelled with 2-3 wt pct Cab-o-Sil to viscosities of 100 to 900 cps, at shear rates of up to 300/sec. These monopropellants were burned in a cylinder that was submerged in a liquid nitrogen bath.

High-pressure liquid-monopropellant strand combustion

Combustion and Flame, 1972
Examination of the influence of dissolved gases on the state of the liquid surface during high-pressure liquid-monopropellant combustion through the use of a strand burning experiment. Liquid surface temperatures were measured, using fine-wire thermocouples, during the strand combustion of ethyl nitrate, normal propyl nitrate, and propylene glycol ...

High-thrust throttleable monopropellant engine system

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1969
Recent Mars soft-landing studies show that a propulsion system is required to accomplish the terminal landing sequence. Relatively high thrust levels and throttling ratios are required and engine weight is extremely significant since it comprises nearly one-third of the propulsion system weight due to the relatively small total impulse which is ...
