On Bergh′s Inequality for Quasi-Monotone Functions

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1995
The following is a typical result of the paper: Let \(0\leq c\leq\infty\), \(C\geq1\) and ...

Staying Offline or Going Online? Managing the Establishment of Service Platforms

open access: yesManagerial and Decision Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study a global game in which consumers and sellers decide whether to join a service platform and interact more efficiently online. Uncertainties about the platform's technology value and users' participation behavior on both market sides cause a coordination problem.

Existence Analysis of a Three‐Species Memristor Drift‐Diffusion System Coupled to Electric Networks

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The existence of global weak solutions to a partial‐differential‐algebraic system is proved. The system consists of the drift‐diffusion equations for the electron, hole, and oxide vacancy densities in a memristor device, the Poisson equation for the electric potential, and the differential‐algebraic equations for an electric network.

An Optimal Three-Way Stable and Monotonic Spectrum of Bounds on Quantiles: A Spectrum of Coherent Measures of Financial Risk and Economic Inequality

open access: yesRisks, 2014
A spectrum of upper bounds (Qα(X ; p) αε[0,∞] on the (largest)  (1-p)-quantile Q(X;p)  of an arbitrary random variable  X is introduced and shown to be stable and monotonic in α, p, and X , with Q0(X ;p) = Q(X;p).    If p is small enough and the

Does Increased Access Increase Equality? Gender and Child Health Investments in India [PDF]

open access: yes
Policymakers often argue that increasing access to health care is one crucial avenue for decreasing gender inequality in the developing world. Although this is generally true in the cross section, time series evidence does not always point to the same ...

Numerical Investigation of a Diffusive SIR Model: Focus on Positivity Preservation

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we consider a system of semilinear partial differential equations (PDEs) representing a spatially extended SIR epidemic model. A brief analytical investigation of the well‐posedness and positivity of the solutions is provided in the appendix, while the main focus is on the numerical treatment of the model.

Some Inequalities for the -Curvature Image

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2009
Lutwak introduced the notion of -curvature image and proved an inequality for the volumes of convex body and its -curvature image. In this paper, we first give an monotonic property of -curvature image. Further, we establish two inequalities for the

Towards an equivalence between maximal entanglement and maximal quantum nonlocality

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
While all bipartite pure entangled states are known to generate correlations violating a Bell inequality, and are therefore nonlocal, the quantitative relation between pure state entanglement and nonlocality is poorly understood.

On Non-Monotone Variational Inequalities

open access: yes
In this paper, we provide some sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to non-monotone Variational Inequalities (VIs) based on inverse mapping theory and degree theory. We have obtained several applicable sufficient conditions for this problem and have introduced a sufficient condition for the existence of a Minty solution.

Random Chemostats with Competition and Different Kinetics to Investigate the Growth of the Gut Microbiome

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate some chemostat models incorporating wall growth, competition, random fluctuations on the dilution rate, and different consumption functions (Monod and Haldane). We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of the corresponding random differential systems to establish conditions on the model parameters under which the ...
