Functional traits mediate individualistic species‐environment distributions at broad spatial scales while fine‐scale species associations remain unpredictable

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 109, Issue 12, Page 1991-2005, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Premise Numerous processes influence plant distributions and co‐occurrence patterns, including ecological sorting, limiting similarity, and stochastic effects. To discriminate among these processes and determine the spatial scales at which they operate, we investigated how functional traits and phylogenetic relatedness influence the ...

Revealing Physical Mechanisms of Spatial Pattern Formation and Switching in Ecosystems via Nonequilibrium Landscape and Flux

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The universality of the landscape‐flux theory with the mode expansion method for analyzing spatial patterns is illustrated by applying it to vegetation patterns in semi‐arid ecosystems. The framework quantifies global dynamics and most probable transition pathways between ecosystem states under random forcing.

Separating the Role of Mixing‐Entropy on the Dynamics of Glass‐Forming Liquids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research innovates by distinguishing entropy’s impact from enthalpy in materials through micro‐alloying. It finds liquid fragility decreases with minimal alloying content or increased element diversity. This clarifies entropy’s role and supports the entropy‐driven glass transition, guiding new material design.

Oxygen Vacancy Defect Engineering for Transverse Thermoelectric Enhancement: a Novel Extrinsic Pathway beyond Intrinsic Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Transverse thermoelectric (TE) technology gains increasing attention as it enables efficient power generation within a single TE element and eliminates junctions. This study enhances transverse thermopower in polycrystalline Sr3YCo4O10‐δ through oxygen vacancy defect engineering, utilizing the anomalous Nernst effect to improve TE efficiency.
