Stochastic ordering of Pólya random variables and monotonicity of the Bernstein–Stancu operator for a negative parameter

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2019
In the present paper, we prove that the probabilities of the Pólya urn distribution (with negative replacement) satisfy a monotonicity property similar to that of the binomial distribution.

GENERALIZED FRACTION RULES FOR MONOTONICITY WITH HIGHER ANTIDERIVATIVES AND DERIVATIVES [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Mathematical Sciences
AbstractWe first introduce the generic versions of the fraction rules for monotonicity, i.e., the one that involves integrals known as Gromov’s theorem and the other that involves derivatives known as L’Hôpital’s rule for monotonicity, which we then extend to high-order antiderivatives and derivatives, respectively.

Rule base compression in fuzzy systems by filtration of non-monotonic rules [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2014
This paper proposes a rule base compression method for Mamdani fuzzy systems with non-monotonic rules. The method is based on filtration of non-monotonic rules whereby the redundant computations in the fuzzy inference with respect to the crisp values of the inputs to the fuzzy system are removed.

Linguistic Reasoning Petri Nets Using q-Rung Orthopair Fuzzy Linguistic Sets and Weighted Ordered Weighted Averaging Operators

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Fuzzy Petri nets (FPNs) are an important tool for knowledge representation and reasoning in the rule-based expert system. Recently, various fuzzy sets and linguistic models have been introduced into FPNs to improve its ability in handling imprecise ...

Interplay of multiple pathways and activity-dependent rules in STDP. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2018
Hebbian plasticity describes a basic mechanism for synaptic plasticity whereby synaptic weights evolve depending on the relative timing of paired activity of the pre- and postsynaptic neurons.

Decreasing property of ratio of two logarithmic expressions involving tangent function

open access: yesMathematical and Computer Modelling of Dynamical Systems
In this article, the authors review three proofs of the decreasing property of the ratio of two logarithmic expressions. With the help of the monotonicity rule for the ratio of two differentiable functions, the authors provide an alternative proof of the

Inverted orders for monotone scoring rules

open access: yesDiscrete Applied Mathematics, 1981
AbstractWhen each of n judges ranks a set A of m objects from best to worst, and s=(s1,…,sm) is a decreasing sequence of real numbers, the collective ranking determined by s orders the objects in A according to their total scores. The total score of x equals sp times the number of judges who rank x in pth place, summed over p.For normalization purposes,

The Sum and Chain Rules for Maximal Monotone Operators [PDF]

open access: yesSet-Valued Analysis, 2007
This paper is primarily concerned with the problem of maximality for the sum $A+B$ and composition $L^{*}ML$ in non-reflexive Banach space settings under qualifications constraints involving the domains of $A,B,M$. Here $X$, $Y$ are Banach spaces with duals $X^{*}$, $Y^{*}$, $A,B:X\rightrightarrows X^{*}$, $M:Y\rightrightarrows Y^{*}$ are multi-valued ...
