A placebo-controlled trial of folic acid and betaine in identical twins with Angelman syndrome. [PDF]
BackgroundAngelman syndrome (AS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is caused by maternal genetic deficiency of a gene that encodes E6-AP ubiquitin-protein ligase (gene symbol UBE3A) mapping to chromosome 15q11-q13.

Genetic diversity and population structure of pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) in Wytham Woods
Genetic diversity underpins forest resilience and adaptation, yet centuries of human activity have reshaped woodland ecosystems worldwide. We studied the population genetics of pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) in Wytham Woods, UK, across stands with different ages and management histories.

Is humn mating adventitious or the result of lawful choice? A twin study of mate selection. [PDF]
Inventory data on a large sample of middle-aged twins and their spouses confirmed that spousal pairs are consistently but weakly similar on traits of personality, interests, talents, and attitudes.

We describe monozygotic twins discordant for childhood leukemia and secondary thyroid carcinoma. We used bisulfite pyrosequencing to compare the constitutive promoter methylation of BRCA1 and several other tumor suppressor genes in primary fibroblasts ...

In oncological patients SIR measures like the mGPS have great impact on prognosis at starting therapy. We recorded at admission for allo‐HCT the mGPS in 2201 patients: score 0 CRP/sALB normal; score 1 CRP >10mg/dl; score 2 CRP >10mg/dl + sALB <35g/L. Multivariate analysis revealed a significant impact with a low GPS score for OS: mGPS 1 vs.

Marital Status and Unobserved Heterogeneity - Do twins suggest a genetic inheritance? [PDF]
The purpose of this study is to reveal the importance of unobserved heterogeneity on marital status. The results for monozygotic (identical) and dizygotic twins indicate an important genetic component in marital status.

Challenges and Pitfalls in Diagnosing Twins With Discordant BWS Phenotype
Accurately diagnosing Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome (BWS) in twins with discordant phenotypes is essential for personalized oncological monitoring and management. It is advisable to test both twins, even without phenotypic expression, and incorporate prenatal factors like assisted reproduction technologies and twin pregnancies into the diagnostic BWS ...

Discordance in monozygotic Parkinson's disease twins – continuum or dichotomy?
Differences in concordance rates between monozygotic and dizygotic twin pairs with Parkinson's disease (PD) have been used to estimate genetic influences in PD pathogenesis.

Monozygotic (MZ) twins do not show complete concordance for many complex diseases; for example, discordance rates for autoimmune diseases are 20%–80%. MZ discordance indicates a role for epigenetic or environmental factors in disease.

Autistic traits in childhood and post‐traumatic stress disorder as young adults: a cohort study
Background Despite the higher prevalence of childhood traumatic experiences and post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in autistic adults, research on trauma‐related psychopathology and autistic traits in young people is lacking. This study examined if high autistic traits in childhood predispose individuals to traumatic experiences, the development of ...
