Climatic Variables as Drivers of Pterocarpus erinaceus (Fabaceae): Distribution and the Implications of Climate Change

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
The study investigates the distribution of Pterocarpus erinaceus in Africa, revealing that the Mean Temperature of the Driest Quarter and the Climatic Moisture Index are the most influential climatic variables determining its distribution. These findings offer new insights into the potential impacts of climate change on the species' habitats and its ...

Ecological‐Linguistic Overlap: The Spatial Congruence Between Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) Habitats and Southwestern Mandarin

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our analysis reveals a significant spatial congruence between the distribution of giant pandas and Southwestern Mandarin in China. Based on the national census, 93.62% of wild pandas reside in counties where this dialect predominates, a pattern supported by strong statistical evidence (Schoener's D = 0.92).

Karyotyping and Distribution Patterns of Endemic Chinese Lilies: Insights Into Their Conservation Under Climate Change

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study integrates cytogenetic and ecological analyses of two endemic Chinese alpine lilies, Lilium lophophorum (2n = 24) and L. nanum (2n = 48), to establish a foundational understanding of their chromosomal diversity and distribution patterns. We document substantial intraspecific karyotypic variation in diploid L.

Impacts of Tourism on Wild Elephant Behavior in a Protected Area: Thresholds for Sustainable Wildlife Viewing

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Wildlife tourism can benefit conservation but also causes stress in socially and cognitively complex species like Asian elephants. Using multi‐year behavioral observations in Kuiburi National Park, Thailand, we identified clear thresholds for tourism variables (e.g., vehicles, people, distance, noise) beyond which elephants exhibited increased stress ...
