The Landscape Ecology of Tropical Secondary Forest in Montane Costa Rica
Ecosystems, 2000Multinomial logistic models of land use/land cover in montane Costa Rica and landscape pattern analysis showed that relative to agriculture, secondary forest occurred closer to old-growth forest, further from roads, in forest reserves, and at higher elevations. Collinearity between explanatory variables yielded simple multivariate models; proportion of

ECOLOGICAL CONSTRAINTS ON WOOD DENSITY IN A TROPICAL MONTANE RAIN FOREST
American Journal of Botany, 1984In a Costa Rican tropical lower montane rain forest the wood densities of canopy tree species are related to the windiness of their preferred habitats, and to their abilities to tolerate shade. Shade‐intolerant species tend to have less dense wood than shade‐tolerant species from the same habitat.
