Global Trends of Trait Matching in Avian Frugivory and Its Consequences for the Complementarity and Irreplaceability of Birds

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 2, February 2025.
We show that trait‐matching affects avian frugivory on a global scale, and hence, birds with contrasting beaks and diets respond differently to the size and lipid content of fruits. Also, morphological trait‐matching increases with latitude leading to a greater functional complementarity of small and large birds in temperate areas.

Perspectives and good dispositions

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, Volume 109, Issue 3, Page 774-798, November 2024.

In vitro Models for Predicting Bioadhesion Fracture Strength to Ex Vivo Animal Buccal Tissue

open access: yesSmall, Volume 20, Issue 40, October 3, 2024.
A new in vitro method is introduced for measuring bioadhesion fracture strength comparable to ex vivo porcine tissues. The model is based on epithelial TR146 cells and can measure the bioadhesion between two soft materials. Moreover, the bioadhesive properties of porcine buccal and esophageal tissues are compared.

The effect of female breast surface area on skin stiffness and tactile sensitivity at rest and following exercise in the heat

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 109, Issue 10, Page 1698-1709, 1 October 2024.
Abstract Female development includes significant morphological changes across the breast. Yet, whether differences in breast surface area (BrSA) modify breast skin stiffness and tactile sensitivity at rest and after exercise in the heat remain unclear. We investigated the relationship between BrSA and skin stiffness and tactile sensitivity in 20 young ...
