Implications of hydrodynamic fluctuations on the minimum shear viscosity of the dilute Fermi gas at unitarity

open access: yes, 2013
We confirm and expand on work by Chafin and Schaefer on hydrodynamic fluctuations in the unitary Fermi gas. Using the result for the equation of state from a recent MIT experiment, we derive lower bounds for \eta/n and \eta/s as a function of temperature.

Adjusted power estimates in monte carlo experiments [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 1994
Critical values and powers of competing tests are often evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations. Since the true levels of those tests are often very different, comparisons of the power estimates are not valid. We suggest that Monte Carlo estimates of critical values be used to create adjusted power estimates which are then comparable.

Quantum Monte Carlo calculations of nuclei with A 7 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We report quantum Monte Carlo calculations of ground and low-lying excited states for nuclei with A{le}7 using a realistic Hamiltonian containing the Argonne v{sub 18} two-nucleon and Urbana IX three-nucleon potentials.

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

Monte Carlo localization algorithm based on particle swarm optimization

open access: yesAutomatika, 2019
In wireless sensor networks, Monte Carlo localization for mobile nodes has a large positioning error and slow convergence speed. To address the challenges of low sampling efficiency and particle impoverishment, a time sequence Monte Carlo localization ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Continuous Sizing and Identification of Microplastics in Water

open access: yesSensors, 2023
The pollution of the environment with microplastics in general, and in particular, the contamination of our drinking water and other food items, has increasingly become the focus of public attention in recent years.

Quantum Monte Carlo Algorithm Based on Two-Body Density Functional Theory for Fermionic Many-Body Systems: Application to 3He

open access: yes, 2006
We construct a quantum Monte Carlo algorithm for interacting fermions using the two-body density as the fundamental quantity. The central idea is mapping the interacting fermionic system onto an auxiliary system of interacting bosons. The correction term

MC generators in CHORUS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This note presents an overview of general-purpose and specific Monte-Carlo event generators used in the simulation of the CERN - CHORUS experiment, aiming to search for $\nu_{\mu} \to \nu_{\tau}$ oscillations and charm particle decays in an emulsion ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
