Multilevel Monte Carlo Path Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesOperations Research, 2008
We show that multigrid ideas can be used to reduce the computational complexity of estimating an expected value arising from a stochastic differential equation using Monte Carlo path simulations. In the simplest case of a Lipschitz payoff and a Euler discretisation, the computational cost to achieve an accuracy of O(ϵ) is reduced from O(ϵ−3) to O(ϵ−2 (

Distributed tracking with sequential Monte Carlo methods for manoeuvrable sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nonlinear distributed tracking for a single target is addressed in this paper. This problem consists of tracking a target of interest while moving the sensors to `best' positions according to an critera appropriate for the problem.

Risk of Non‐Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Patients Treated with GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) have demonstrated significant weight‐reducing effects and may offer benefits in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH); however, recent concerns about the risk of non‐arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) have emerged.

Simple approach to include external resistances in the Monte Carlo simulation of MESFETs and HEMTs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The contact and external series resistances play an important role in the performance of modern 0.1-0.2 μm HEMT's. It is not possible to include these resistances directly into the Monte Carlo simulations.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

DosePatch: physics-inspired cropping layout for patch-based Monte Carlo simulations to provide fast and accurate internal dosimetry

open access: yesEJNMMI Physics
Background Dosimetry-based personalized therapy was shown to have clinical benefits e.g. in liver selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). Yet, there is no consensus about its introduction into clinical practice, mainly as Monte Carlo simulations ...

Monte Carlo simulation on transputer arrays

open access: yesParallel Computing, 1988
A Monte Carlo simulation of a simple two-dimensional spin system as representative of a range of theoretical physics problems, is arranged for parallel computation by a multi-processor (transputer) array. Two essentially different types of decomposition; ``geometric'' where each processor handles a small sector of the physical system, and ``algorithmic'

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
