It is known that polar solvents penetrate the montmorillonite lattice and that multiple layers of solvent can exist between the silicate layers. It is shown here that the number of layers in the interlaminar spacing is different when the clay is equilibrated with liquid than when it is equilibrated with vapor.

MONTMORILLONITE-POLYALCOHOL COMPLEXES
Clays and clay minerals (National Conference on Clays and Clay Minerals), 1960AbstractSome montmorillonites may be differentiated by complexing them with polyalcohols having a CH2 group that is not connected to an oxygen atom. Montmorillonites with a low layer charge and high valence interlayer cations have larger basal spacings for their complexes than do those with a high layer charge and low valence interlayer cations.

Electrokinetic Phenomena in Montmorillonite
MRS Proceedings, 2000AbstractClays present remarkable electrokinetic features since they exist from very dilute colloidal state to nanoporous materials, according to the ration water/clay. The case of low volume fraction Vwater/Vtot which corresponds to compact systems is examined.

Morphological features of montmorillonite aggregates in a large number of samples suggest that they may be formed by a dendritic crystal growth mechanism (i.e., tree-like growth by branching of a growth front).

Polyurethaneacrylate/montmorillonite nanocomposites
Polymer journal, 2021In order to create polymer nanocomposites with high performance on the basis of polyurethaneacrylates (PUA) with montmorillonite (MMT), three methods of chemical modification of the layered silicate surface have been developed. The first modification method is based on using of two different functional modifiers (organophilic and reactive), the second ...

Implications of silylated montmorillonite on montmorillonite–polyacrylate nanocomposites
Applied Clay Science, 2011Abstract New nanocomposites based on polyacrylates and five types of montmorillonites modified by edge covalent bonding, were obtained. The alkoxysilanic substituent strongly influenced the physical–chemical properties of the final material. All modified clay minerals exhibit a lower wettability compared to pure montmorillonite. FTIR and TGA analyses
