Implications of silylated montmorillonite on montmorillonite–polyacrylate nanocomposites

Abstract Six montmorillonite samples from Aberdeen, Mississippi were equilibrated with various solutions for 3–4 years. Under the conditions of these experiments, Aberdeen montmorillonite was found to be less stable than Belle Fourche montmorillonite and kaolinite.

With the use of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy the structure and morphology of montmorillonite (MMT), a material of current interest for use in polymer nanocomposites, was characterized. Using both imaging theory and experiment, the procedures needed to generate lattice images from MMT were established.
