Montmorillonite Clay Catalysis. Part 13.1 Etherification of Cholesterol Catalysed by Montmorillonite K-10

Journal of Chemical Research, 1998
The preparation of cholesteryl ethers from alcohols and phenols with cholesterol is carried out at 50–70°C by using montmorillonite K-10 as an acid catalyst in chloroform or cyclohexane.

A Glycosidation Reaction Employing Montmorillonite K-10 as Catalyst

Journal of Chemical Education, 1996
The large number of biology majors and prehealth students enrolled in Organic Chemistry makes it desirable to have laboratories that involve biologically interesting molecules. Although many laboratory manuals contain sections on carbohydrate chemistry, the experiments are typically limited to esterification or hydrolysis reactions.

Naphthalenes microwave irradiation induced rearrangement on montmorillonite K-10

Tetrahedron Letters, 1995
Irradiation of 4-aryl-4-alkylhex-5-en-2-ones (e.g. 1a) or 5-aryl-4-alkylhex-5-en-2-ones (e.g. 2a) adsorbed on montmorillonite K-10 in a commercial microwave oven furnishes the multialkylated naphthalenes (e.g. 3).

Per-O-acetylation of sugars catalysed by montmorillonite K-10

Tetrahedron Letters, 1998
Abstract The inexpensive solid acid, montmorillonite K-10, is shown to be an efficient catalyst for the per-O-acetylation of several mono -, di - and trisaccharides. The pyranose forms accounted for 75–100% of the acetylated products.

Assessing and improving the catalytic activity of K-10 montmorillonite

Green Chemistry, 2007
K-10 montmorillonite, commonly used as a heterogeneous acid catalyst, was found to vary in the extent of acid-treatment, with some batches exhibiting significantly reduced catalytic activity in Bronsted acid-catalysed reactions. K-10 was thus further treated with HCl of varying concentrations to increase its activity in acid-catalysed reactions.
