Characterization of Polyester Mooring Lines
Volume 1: Offshore Technology, 2008Fibre ropes are extensively used in marine applications. One critical area of interest is their application as mooring lines for floating offshore platforms, for which primarily polyester is now employed in various regions (offshore Brazil - now for 10 years, West Africa, Gulf of Mexico).

Extreme loads in taut mooring lines and mooring line induced damping: an asymptotic approach
Applied Ocean Research, 2000Abstract A mooring line submerged in water is considered. The equations for the tension in the line and damping due to viscous drag forces on the line is developed under the assumption that the tension in the line is large relative to the submerged weight of the line.

Dynamic characteristics of mooring lines play an important role in overall structural response and fatigue design of mooring systems. Full dynamic analysis including line dynamics is a vital part of fatigue design process although in time domain it needs excessive computational efforts.

2018 9th International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (ICMAE), 2018
In this study, dynamic analysis is conducted on a Floating Mooring Line-Driven Platform (FMDP) subjected to sea wave forces. The effect of changing mooring lines pattern is investigated to enhance the dynamic behavior of the FMDP. The analysis is demonstrated with six mooring lines FMDP.

A Study on Position Mooring System Design for the Vessel Moored by Mooring Lines
IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, 2015This paper presents the experimental results about position mooring (PM) system applied to the barge ship. The aim of the PM is to maintain the position and motion of the ship's surge and sway directions as desired. In this paper, a system consisting of a barge vessel and mooring lines is mathematically modeled.

An improved method of mooring damping estimation considering mooring line segments contribution
Ocean Engineering, 2021Abstract The accurate estimation of mooring line damping is significant for the mooring system design and the global motion responses analysis. Aiming at the existing method of mooring damping estimation can only calculate the total damping contribution of mooring line, an improved method is proposed to accurate estimate the mooring line segments ...

Multirate Timestepping For Mooring Line Dynamics
OTC Brasil, 2017Abstract Direct time integration is a widely-used method for the analysis of loads and motions of mooring and floating systems. Nonlinear and transient effects can be easily accounted for in time domain analyses but it is a computationally expensive method, especially for explicit solvers which are limited by the timestep size to meet ...

Emerging technology: DPX jacketed mooring lines
Proceedings of OCEANS 2005 MTS/IEEE, 2005The use of high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) fiber is gaining popularity in the cordage industry due to such excellent properties as high strength, low weight, fatigue resistance, and UV resistance. However, the low coefficient of friction (COF) of HMPE fiber presents a challenge when used on winches, capstans, H-bitts and other types of hardware that ...
