Neural Network Based Adaptive Control for a Thruster Assisted Mooring Vessel in Mooring Line Failure

Offshore Technology Conference Asia, 2016
Abstract Classification society standard requires redundancy in floating vessels with thruster assisted mooring system, but it is not avoidable for floating vessels to drive off in an instant of a mooring line failure such as line breakage or dragging of anchor.

Mooring Line Failure Detection Using Artificial Neural Networks: An Application to Field Data Including Artificial Failure Cases

Offshore Technology Conference, 2023
Abstract Alternative methods to using physical sensors for monitoring the integrity of mooring lines on floating offshore platforms are of great interest in the Offshore O&G industry. These alternative methods can be used in parallel with the physical sensors at the start of the service life of the asset, measurements from the ...

A Possible Failure Mode for Leeward Mooring Lines on a Floating Storage Unit

Volume 1: Offshore Technology, 2013
The floating storage unit Navion Saga at the Volve field in the North Sea suffered from two mooring line breaks in steel wire ropes in 2011. Investigations of the broken ropes indicated that a possible failure mechanism could be high stresses near the wire socket induced by large bending moments in leeward mooring lines.

Evaluation of Safe and Failure Zones of Risers and Mooring Lines of Floating Production Systems

Volume 1: Offshore Technology, 2013
In recent years, the design procedures of risers and mooring system for floating production systems (FPS) have had more feedback. In this way mooring and risers designers can identify, even in an early stage, the constraints imposed by one system over the other. This work presents an evaluation of the crossing of the information obtained

Time domain simulation of a one line failure for a DP-assisted mooring system

Journal of Marine Science and Application, 2014
This paper focuses on the research of a semi-submersible platform equipped with a DP-assisted mooring system. Based on the working principles of the DP-assisted mooring system and the model of the platform motion, a time domain simulation program is applied to analyze the impact, in the case of one line failure, on the platform motion, power ...

Lessons Learned From Norwegian Mooring Line Failures 2010–2013

Volume 4A: Structures, Safety and Reliability, 2014
15 failures of offshore mooring lines have occurred in the period 2010–2013 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The failures are cause by a mixture of overload, fatigue and mechanical damages. Failure statistics from the period 2010–2013 are presented and compared it with earlier statistics. In the period 1996–2005 a high number of cases

Spectral Graph-Based Networks for Mooring Line Failure Detection on FPSO

Volume 1: Offshore Technology
Abstract Robust monitoring is vital in offshore oil and gas exploration, especially for Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) platforms pivotal in subsea hydrocarbon extraction. Motivated by the glaring absence of failure detection systems in mooring lines on FPSOs, this work tackles the broader issue of inadequate ...
