Novel Mooring Design Options for high-intensity typhoon conditions - An investigation for wave energy in China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Structural Load & Fatigue on Floating Structures conference, London UK, 25 February 2015The industrialised and densely populated coastal regions in China are in search of local energy supplies in order to avoid expensive energy transmission from the West

Resistance training load does not determine resistance training‐induced hypertrophy across upper and lower limbs in healthy young males

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend In healthy young males, we found that skeletal muscle hypertrophy following a period of resistance exercise training (RET) was consistent within and between subjects, as assessed using a variety of established methods. The skeletal muscle hypertrophic response was independent of external load.

Dynamic Response and Mooring Fracture Performance Analysis of a Semi-Submersible Floating Offshore Wind Turbine under Freak Waves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Among the extreme sea scenarios, freak waves pose a serious threat to offshore structures, potentially leading to structural failure, such as mooring line failure, floater capsizing, or structural damage.

Mesoscale and Submesoscale Variability in the Indian Ocean

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Material transport and air‐sea coupling dynamics associated with monsoon‐related mesoscale and submesoscale processes in the Indian Ocean significantly modulate biogeochemical cycles, the large‐scale energy balance, and both regional and global climate change.

Vertical‐Component Seismic Response and System Identification of a 52‐Story High‐Rise Building Using Earthquake Data

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 2, May 2026.
This study investigates the vertical dynamic response of a 52‐story high‐rise building in downtown Los Angeles using small‐magnitude earthquake data recorded by the Community Seismic Network. While seismic design traditionally emphasizes horizontal ground motion, vertical accelerations can have a significant impact on tall structures, leading to ...

Feasibility Study of implementing Wake Steering in Floating Wind Farms: Power Gain, Load Estimation and Economic Analysis

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 29, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper presents an overview of the CONFLOWS project, a collaborative effort between DNV, Marine Power Systems (MPS) and Durham University. The project investigates the effects of wake steering from aerodynamic, structural and economic modelling perspectives, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of its impact on performance and ...

Changing Gender Relations in Canada: The Rise of Gender‐Neutral Forenames

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 2, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Historically, gender‐neutral or androgynous first names have been relatively rare, showing little sign of upward or downward temporal trend in Canada or elsewhere. Using digitized birth registration records from three provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario) and for all of Canada, we highlight a rise, beginning around 1990, in the ...
