Mopa Mopa Images in the Colonial Northern Andes
2021During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Indigenous Andeans meticulously decorated wooden objects using a unique plant resin known as barniz de Pasto or mopa mopa. Focusing on these objects, the dissertation identifies and subverts the epistemic asymmetries at play when we analyze Indigenous production in colonial contexts.

Spaceborne remote sensing laser energy requirements exceed 1 joule per pulse for some applications. To meet this requirement, NASA Langley is currently investigating the operation of Ti:Al2O3 in Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) configurations.

161 W middle infrared ZnGeP2 MOPA system pumped by 300 W-class Ho:YAG MOPA system
Optics Letters, 2020We demonstrated a high-power Q -switched two-stage Ho:YAG master-oscillator power-amplifier (MOPA) system dual-end pumped by Tm:YLF lasers. A new method was introduced by rotating and swapping spatial axial directions of pump beams to improve the beam quality of the Ho:YAG oscillator and first-stage amplifier.

Beam perturbations through a MOPA chain
SPIE Proceedings, 2001A theoretical and experimental study investigated beam perturbations on propagation through a MOPA chain, including both optical and medium influences. Analytical models are presented to explain the influence of thermal aberrations on the beam, and these effects are related directly to the change in M2 (quality factor) of the beam.

100 kW Coherently Combined Slab MOPAs

Seven wavefrontcorrected 15-kW MOPA (master oscillator power amplifier) laser chains are phase locked to achieve a single aperture output beam with good beam quality.
