Hybrid Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy vs. Open Esophagectomy: A Retrospective Propensity Score Matched Comparison

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
Background and Objectives: Though widely used, only limited data is available that shows the superiority of hybrid minimally-invasive esophagectomy (HMIE) compared to open esophagectomy (OE).

Morbidity in Depressive Disorders [PDF]

open access: yesPsychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2017
Levels of residual morbidity in mood disorder patients followed up long-term under community conditions of treatment are remarkably high [1] . Both unipolar major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) patients were ill 40–50% of follow-up time; in BD patients, three-quarters of that residual morbidity was depressive [1] .

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

Comparing Predictors and Outcomes of Higher Allostatic Load across Zoo-Housed African Great Apes

open access: yesJournal of Zoological and Botanical Gardens, 2023
Stressors over the lifespan can contribute to physiological dysregulation, or allostatic load. Allostatic load has been studied in humans using allostatic load indices (ALIs) for over 25 years, but the same methods are rarely applied to other species. We

RKIP overexpression reduces lung adenocarcinoma aggressiveness and sensitizes cells to EGFR‐targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RKIP, a metastasis suppressor protein, modulates key oncogenic pathways in lung adenocarcinoma. In silico analyses linked low RKIP expression to poor survival. Functional studies revealed RKIP overexpression reduces tumor aggressiveness and enhances sensitivity to EGFR‐targeted therapies, while its loss promotes resistance.

Genome-Wide DNA methylation profile analysis identifies differentially methylated loci associated with personal PM2.5 exposure in adults with asthma

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters ≤2.5 µm (PM2.5) is a major environmental risk factor for acute asthma exacerbation, and the underlying mechanism is not completely understood.

A bioinformatics screen identifies TCF19 as an aggressiveness‐sustaining gene in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Gene expression meta‐analysis in multiple prostate cancer patient cohorts identifies Transcription factor 19 (TCF19) as an aggressiveness‐sustaining gene with prognostic potential. TCF19 is a gene repressed by androgen signaling that sustains core cancer‐related processes such as vascular permeability or tumor growth and metastasis.

Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy: A Single-Center Experience and a Narrative Review of Recent Evidence

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Radical cystectomy represents one of the most challenging surgical procedures, exhibiting a high morbidity rate. The transition to minimally invasive surgery in the field has been steep, due to either the technical complexity and prior concerns of ...
