A meta‐analysis exploring associations between habitat degradation and Neotropical bat virus prevalence and seroprevalence

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2024, Issue 10, October 2024.
Habitat degradation can increase zoonotic disease risks by altering infection dynamics in wildlife and increasing wildlife–human interactions. Bats are an important taxonomic group to consider these effects, because they harbour many relevant zoonotic viruses and have species‐ and context‐dependent responses to degradation that could affect zoonotic ...

Inhalant anesthesia for minimally invasive procedures in free‐ranging Guadalupe fur seals (Arctocephalus philippii townsendi)

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 40, Issue 3, July 2024.
Abstract Free‐ranging otariids are routinely captured for data and sample collection. To achieve this, anesthesia may be used to facilitate handling, decrease stress, and improve human and animal safety. Injectable anesthetics are widely used for such endeavors; however, certain disadvantages to this approach warrant further exploration of alternative ...

Morcegos: além dos mitos

open access: yes, 2018

Temporal mismatches in flight activity patterns between Pipistrellus kuhlii and Prays oleae in olive farms: Implications for biocontrol services potential

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 526-537, March 2024.
Future research should consider mismatches between the temporal activity patterns of insectivorous bats and insect pests. Otherwise, the actual impact of agricultural intensification on bat‐mediated biocontrol services as well as the economic impact of their loss on the agriculture industry might be underestimated.

Applying genomic approaches to identify historic population declines in European forest bats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 1, Page 160-172, January 2024.
Genomic approaches can provide a better understanding of the conservation status of threatened species, within historic and contemporary contexts, and inform their conservation management. Our findings of will directly influence the definition of the Favourable Conservation Status of the barbastelle, in turn influencing considerations of the ...
