Urban developmental environments alter tadpole phenotypes depending on origin

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Urbanisation has rapidly altered the ecological and evolutionary contexts for many species. Using a reciprocal transplant experiment with frog larvae, we find that urban environments can alter morphological, developmental and behavioural traits at both ecological and evolutionary scales.

Reproductive biology, distribution and abundance of Squalus megalops (Macleay, 1881) and Squalus mitsukurii (Jordan & Snyder, 1903) off southern Brazil, southwest Atlantic

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Squalus megalops and Squalus mitsukurii are recognized as the most abundant Squalus species in the southern Brazil region. Currently, S. megalops is listed as ‘least concern’ (LC) and S. mitsukurii as ‘endangered’ (EN). However, at the regional level, both species are classified as ‘data deficient’ – DD, due to the lack of population local ...

Evaluation of canine epidermis and keratinocytoids (keratinocytic organoids) by transmission electron microscopy

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Background – Skin disease is a common complaint in veterinary medicine. Current models often use live animals. Epidermal organoids (keratinocytoids) are 3D miniature organs created in culture from single epidermal keratinocytes. These keratinocytoids can be used as an alternative to live animal studies to investigate epidermal structures and skin ...

Terroir and rootstock effects on leaf shape in California Central Valley vineyards

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 1110-1122, July 2025.
The innumerable effects of terroir—including climate, soil, microbial environment, biotic interactions, and cultivation practice—collectively alter plant performance and production. A more direct agricultural intervention is grafting, in which genetically distinct shoot and root genotypes are surgically combined to create a chimera that alters shoot ...
