Secrets within stems: The cryptic Apodanthes caseariae (Apodanthaceae), a rare neotropical holoendoparasite

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 385-400, March 2026.
Holoendoparasites are extremely rare plants that live entirely hidden inside their hosts, with only flowers and fruits visible. We studied Apodanthes caseariae, found in central and South America, parasitizing Casearia sylvestris. Little is known about its life cycle.

Community‐level effects of Müllerian mimicry on pollinator diversity and functioning

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 599-610, March 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Müllerian mimicry, a mutualistic interaction in which harmful species evolve similar warning signals, is often accompanied by niche divergence among mimetic species. While these aspects have traditionally been studied in an evolutionary context, their community‐level ...

Soil Properties and Plant Species Identity Independently Influence Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Composition Across Lowland Tropical Forests

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We found that plant species identity and soil properties, especially soil phosphorus availability, independently structured arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) community composition in tropical forests across central Panama. We also found that soil nutrient availability may mediate the interaction networks between plants and AMF. ABSTRACT Plant species

The intestine as a diagnostic character in identifying certain clupeoids (Engraulididae, Clupeidae, Dussumieriidae) and as a morphometric character for comparing anchoveta (Centengraulis mysticetus) populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1958
ENGLISH: The several species of clupeoid fishes used as baitfish in the Eastern Pacific tuna fishery are, in some cases, sufficiently similar to make identification difficult.
