An experimental in vivo model to characterize "heavy legs" symptom in topical formulations. [PDF]

open access: yesDermatol Res Pract, 2009
The “Heavy legs” symptom is regarded as an early expression of chronic venous failure, estimated to affect 40% of the population in developing countries. A new methodology is proposed to approach the “tired or heavy legs” symptom. Seven females with this complaint applied a standard topical formulation during 28 days in one leg randomly chosen.

Characterization of chronic cutaneous lesions from TNF-receptor-1-deficient mice infected by Leishmania major. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Dev Immunol, 2012
Leishmania major‐infected TNF receptor 1 deficient (TNFR1 KO) mice resolve parasitism but fail to resolve lesions, while wild‐type mice completely heal. We investigated the cell composition, cytokine production, and apoptosis in lesions from L. major‐infected TNFR1 KO and wild‐type (WT) mice. Chronic lesions from L.

Morfometric Character of Longtail Tuna (Thunnus Tonggol)

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
Abstract Longtail tuna is a pelagic fish that has a wide distribution from the Java Sea to the Natuna Sea or the South China Sea. This study aims to identified the character of the population and determine differences in population/stock of longtail tuna among stock in the Java Sea and the Natuna Sea.

3D pollination biology using micro‐computed tomography and geometric morphometrics in Theobroma cacao

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 11, Issue 5, September-October 2023., 2023
Abstract Premise Imaging technologies that capture three‐dimensional (3D) variation in floral morphology at micro‐ and nano‐resolutions are increasingly accessible. In herkogamous flowers, such as those of Theobroma cacao, structural barriers between anthers and stigmas represent bottlenecks that restrict pollinator size and access to reproductive ...

Proximity to metal mining is related to aspects of feather coloration but not fluctuating asymmetry in the Russet‐crowned Motmot (Momotus mexicanus) in south‐central Mexico

open access: yesIbis, Volume 165, Issue 2, Page 587-601, April 2023., 2023
Mining is present in all major biomes worldwide and overlaps strongly with areas of importance for bird conservation. Mining causes multiple types of environmental disturbance, including habitat alteration, increased human presence and persistent heavy metal pollution. Feather coloration and fluctuating asymmetry (random deviation from perfect symmetry

Web databases of feather photographs are useful tools for avian morphometry studies

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 12, Page 7677-7684, June 2021., 2021
Wing area and aspect ratio are key variables for studies of avian comparative ecology, despite the complexity of measuring them both in living and in museum specimens. The systematic databases of feather photographs available on the Internet may offer an alternative way of obtaining such morphometric data.
