Modeling of Dynamic Loading of Morphing Wing Aircraft
AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 2010The simulation of dynamic loads and required power is essential for the design of any morphing wing aircraft, since it ultimately determines the feasibility of a given morphing configuration. In this paper a methodology suitable for numerical calculation of the dynamic loads for a morphing-wing aircraft is presented.

Multidisciplinary Performance Based Optimization of Morphing Aircraft
22nd AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference, 2014Nowadays the aeronautic industry is battling with contradictory requirements. In one hand, there is the need to increase speed and capacity, while, on the other hand, there is an increasing need to minimize the environmental impact caused by air travel. The permanent need to improve aircraft performance and efficiency, have impelled not only the use of

Controller design for a morphing, perching aircraft
SPIE Proceedings, 2011This article compares two feedback compensator strategies for the task of guiding a morphing aircraft along a perching trajectory. The aircraft model includes novel, actuated degrees of freedom that allow for bulk movement of some airframe structures.

Dynamic Modeling of Large-Scale Morphing Aircraft
47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
7th, 2006The dynamics of morphing flight, in which large changes in structural geometry may occur, include various components that are not apparent in the standard rigid flight equations. The additional terms include parameter and/or time varying aerodynamic forces and inertial forces due to relative motion.

Kinematically Designed Flexible Skins for Morphing Aircraft
Aerospace, 2006This investigation targeted the development of flexible materials that when combined with mechanized structures can enable large rigid body deformations of aircraft structures while maintaining its aerodynamic shape. The solution presented in this work focuses on determining the distribution of material properties to design such a skin using topology ...

Morphing Value Assessment on Overall Aircraft Level
2015In order to assess the benefit of the morphing devices developed in the framework of SARISTU, integration in an overall aircraft model is required. For this purpose, the relevant input data regarding the adaptive leading-edge, trailing-edge and winglet devices are gathered with specific focus on weight and aerodynamic performance.

Supermanoeuvrability in a biomimetic morphing-wing aircraft
2019In this work we study the supermanoeuvrability of a biomimetic morphing-wing case study aircraft system. Analytical and computational models of biomimetic flight dynamics are developed, utilising multibody dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, and reduced-order aerodynamic models; and validated with respect to experimentally-derived flight dynamics ...
