Control System Design for a Morphing Wing Trailing Edge
Shape control of adaptive wings has the potential to improve wing aerodynamic performance in off-design conditions. A possible way to attain this objective is to implement specific technologies for trailing edge morphing, aimed at changing the airfoil camber.

Design and Analysis of a Morphing Trailing Edge System
2021 6th International Conference on Renewable Energy: Generation and Applications (ICREGA), 2021The morphing technologies represent a potential candidate for replacing conventional control surface devices. The design of an actively driven compliant trailing edge structure is demonstrated. The generated deflection layout is identified with a three-dimensional, seamless, and continuous wave-like quadratic layout upon activation.

Passively morphing trailing edge design for composite tidal turbine blades [PDF]
Numerical simulations and lab-scale experiments are used to evaluate three passively morphing trailing edge designs for a composite tidal turbine blade. The designs include a closed trailing edge, an open trailing edge, and a corrugated trailing edge. It

Design of a scalable trailing edge of morphing wings
2014 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO 2014), 2014A networking mechanism was designed based on scalable trailing edge to satisfy the requirements of morphing wings. By this way, we can increase the lift coefficient and the aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft in the process of taking off and landing. We use Lagrange equations to set up the system dynamics model.

Spanwise morphing trailing edge on a finite wing
SPIE Proceedings, 2015Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are prime targets for morphing implementation as they must adapt to large changes in flight conditions associated with locally varying wind or large changes in mass associated with payload delivery. The Spanwise Morphing Trailing Edge concept locally varies the trailing edge camber of a wing or control surface, functioning as a

Construction of the smooth morphing trailing edge demonstrator
2019 22nd International Conference on Process Control (PC19), 2019This paper describes the development of the smart morphing trailing edge demonstrator intended for wind tunnel experiments and control laws validations. Our design puts great emphasis on smooth transitions between individual actuated segments. The technology of 3D printing has been used for wing parts production.

Control response of continuous trailing edge morphing wings
Active and Passive Smart Structures and Integrated Systems XV, 2021In this research, the morphing wing geometries are studied parametrically to identify the aerodynamic characteristics at various flight conditions. The morphing wing presented considers a NACA 0012 airfoil with a rigid portion at the leading edge and a continuously conforming trailing edge flap.

Flap Architecture by Morphing Trailing Edges
International Journal of Current Engineering and Technology, 2010This paper proposes flap architecture for a variable camber trailing edge, whose reference geometry is based on a full scale wing for a regional transport aircraft. The compliant rib is based on a truss-like structure where some members are active rods made of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA).

Experimental testing of spanwise morphing trailing edge concept
SPIE Proceedings, 2013Aircraft wings with smooth, hinge-less morphing ailerons exhibit increased chordwise aerodynamic efficiency over conventional hinged ailerons. Ideally, the wing would also use these morphing ailerons to smoothly vary its airfoil shape between spanwise stations to optimize the lift distribution and further increase aerodynamic efficiency.

Development and Testing of an Active Trailing Edge Morphing Demonstrator for a Rotary Wing
ASME 2021 Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems, 2021Abstract This paper discusses the development and whirl tower testing of an active translation induced camber morphing system for rotorcraft. The system deploys the morphing flap based on the amplitude and type of the input signal. As a case study, a demonstrator is developed and tested primarily under the centrifugal force generated by ...
