ABSTRACT The reliability of flood event simulations is a crucial aspect in terms of saving lives. The worst flood scenarios derive from possible dam failures. For earthen dams, the breaching mechanism, triggered by overtopping or piping, is affected by several modelling uncertainties, which propagate downstream and may influence flood hazard mapping ...

Periglacial Morphodynamics in the Upper Kaunertal
Proglacial areas represent transitional zones between glacial and periglacial landscapes. Non-glacial processes in the proglacial zone might evolve under periglacial conditions, and vice versa periglacial processes often occur in proglacial zones. Hence,

Effects of tropical cyclone Jasper at Low Island, northern Great Barrier Reef
Tropical cyclones (TC) can produce waves and water levels that markedly reshape sand cay shorelines. TC Jasper (December 2023) passed near Low Island (Low Isles, Northern Great Barrier Reef [GBF]) as a category 2 storm.

Cheniers are sandy ridges parallel to the coast separated by muddy deposits. Here we explore the development of erosional chenier plains, which form by winnowing during storms, through dimensional analysis and numerical results from the morphodynamic ...

The physics of dunes relies on the interaction between a wind flow and an erodible topography. Thus, if strong enough to transport grains, the wind shapes sandy areas into dune fields. These dunes are reminiscent of a wavy sea so that sandy deserts are called sand seas. However, the comparison stops there.

Shoreface morphodynamics in Ireland and France
International audienceThe shoreface is defined as the transition zone between the beach and the inner shelf. Its morphodynamics are driven by weather-wave climate interaction where, during fair weather, shoaling waves favour onshore sediment transport ...

The morphodynamics of shore platform beaches
The morphodynamics of shore platform beaches near Apollo Bay, Victoria, were examined, to determine their response to changing wave energy conditions and influence on shore platform development. Three specific research questions were posed. 1.
