A Method for Hand Dorsal Vein Recognition Based on Frangi and Morphological Operation

open access: yesIEEE Access
Aiming at the problem of image recognition of the hand dorsal vein, a method for hand dorsal vein recognition based on Frangi and morphological operation (Frangi-M) is proposed. Frangi-M combines the Frangi algorithm and morphological operation. Firstly,

Characterization of surface morphology and its correlation with friction performance of brake pads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The present work presents the morphology evolution of a brake material surface submitted to braking tests through a laboratory-scale tribometer. Optical microscope images of the material’s surface were obtained for every 10 braking operations.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Learning Morphological Operators for Depth Completion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Depth images generated by direct projection of LiDAR point clouds on the image plane suffer from a great level of sparsity which is difficult to interpret by classical computer vision algorithms. We propose a method for completing sparse depth images in a semantically accurate manner by training a novel morphological neural network.

Glioma Brain Tumor Classification Using Convolution Neural Network and Majority Voting

open access: yesIEEE Access
Glioma brain tumors are malignant diseases for which early detection and instant treatment will increase the survival rate. Several studies have reported the efficiency of deep learning convolutional neural networks (CNN) in diagnosing brain tumors using

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Morphological annotation of Korean with Directly Maintainable Resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This article describes an exclusively resource-based method of morphological annotation of written Korean text. Korean is an agglutinative language. Our annotator is designed to process text before the operation of a syntactic parser.

Electrocardiogram Baseline Wander Suppression Based on the Combination of Morphological and Wavelet Transformation Based Filtering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
One of the major noise components in electrocardiogram (ECG) is the baseline wander (BW). Effective methods for suppressing BW include the wavelet-based (WT) and the mathematical morphological filtering-based (MMF)algorithms.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
