Species relationships in the genus Vasconcellea (Caricaceae) based on molecular and morphological evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Validity of the taxa currently recognized in the genus Vasconcellea was analyzed by investigating morphological and molecular data from 105 specimens of this genus and six specimens of the related genus Carica. Taxon identification of these specimens was

A new model for the spread of the first farmers in Europe

open access: yesDocumenta Praehistorica, 2003
The appearance and dispersion of the first farmers in Europe has been the subject of heated debate among anthropologists, archaeologists, and linguists for over a century.

Nutrient-dependent morphological variability of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron

open access: yesMicrobiology, 2020
Unique morphologies can enable bacteria to survive in their native environment. Furthermore, many bacteria change their cell shape to adapt to different environmental conditions. For instance, some bacteria increase their surface area under carbon or nitrogen starvation.

Genetic, Morphological, and Biochemical Diversity of Argan Tree (Argania spinosa L.) (Sapotaceae) in Tunisia

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Argan trees are normally endemic to Morocco and Algeria, but hundreds of argan trees exist in Tunisia, some introduced from Morocco and some from unknown origins.

Periodic morphological changes in the radio structure of the gamma-ray binary LS 5039

open access: yes, 2012
Gamma-ray binaries allow us to study physical processes such as particle acceleration up to TeV energies and VHE gamma-ray emission and absorption with changing geometrical configurations on a periodic basis.

MYCN Amplification in RB1‐Inactivated Retinoblastoma: Association With High‐Risk Features

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background MYCN amplification occurs in a subset of retinoblastoma cases, both with and without RB1 inactivation. It has been suggested that retinoblastomas with MYCN amplification represent a distinct entity with more aggressive clinical behavior.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Variability along a latitudinal gradient in the chiasma frequency and morphological characters of Dichroplus pratensis (Orthoptera: Acrididae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
The grasshopper Dichroplus pratensis Bruner is polymorphic and polytypic for a complex Robertsonian system. In this species, centric fusions induce changes in number and position of chiasmata, and thus potentially affect intrachromosomal genetic ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
