Comparative Analysis of Endowment Life Insurance Premium Reserves Using the Canadian Method Based on the 2019 TMI and Gompertz’s Law

open access: yesInternational Journal of Business, Economics, and Social Development
Life uncertainty, particularly mortality risk, creates the need for financial protection through life insurance. Endowment life insurance is a product that provides both death benefits and survival benefits at the end of the coverage period; therefore ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A life table for female barren-ground caribou in north-central Canada

open access: yesRangifer, 1990
A survivorship curve and cohort-specific life table were developed for female barren-ground caribou (Rangifer tarandus groenlandicus) sampled from the Beverly herd from 1980 through 1987.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Life expectancy is the death-weighted average of the reciprocal of the survival-specific force of mortality

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2010
The hazard of mortality is usually presented as a function of age, but can be defined as a function of the fraction of survivors. This definition enables us to derive new relationships for life expectancy.

An extension of relational methods in mortality estimations [PDF]

open access: yes
Actuaries and demographers have a long tradition of utilising collateral data to improve mortality estimates. Three main approaches have been used to accomplish the improvement- mortality laws, model life tables, and relational methods. The present paper

Socio-economic and environmental differentials, and mortality in a developing urban area (Belo Horizonte - Brazil) [PDF]

open access: yes
Studies on health inequalities on developing cities are scarce. They have mainly focused on infant and child mortality and life expectancy at birth. Studies of adult mortality and cause- specific studies have seldom been

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
