Compressive Bearing Capacity Experiment of Brick Walls Under Vertical Loads Considering the Mortar Compaction Process

open access: yesBuildings
Total floor areas of existing masonry structures in China cover 25 billion square meters. A significant proportion of these structures were classified as Grade C or D following a safety assessment.

Behaviour of small masonry assemblages reinforced with a steel cord reinforced joint repointing

open access: yes, 2016
Unreinforced masonry (URM) walls are one of the oldest and most common types of construction elements in the world. However they are susceptible to failure when exposed to overstresses, caused by out-of-plane and in-plane loads.

Temperature‐Driven Emission Redistribution of Yb2+ in SrB4O7 Enables Highly Sensitive Optical Thermometry Supported by Multiple Linear Regression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel optical thermometer exploits the rare UV emission of Yb2+ ions in a SrB4O7 host, enabling highly sensitive, non‐contact temperature measurements from 80 to 420 K. The applied multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis results in a multiple increase in the resulting temperature sensitivity.

Stress‐to‐Light Conversion in an Earth‐Abundant Oxide Semiconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stress‐to‐light conversion in solids represents a unique photonic functionality, yet it has never been realized in a chemically simple and sustainable material. Here, we show that sustainable semiconductor ZnO exhibits strong near‐infrared (NIR) luminescence under elastic stress when defect‐engineered to stabilize the p‐type state.

Mechanically Adaptive Polyimide Interfaces for Stable High‐Voltage NCM–Sulfide All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically adaptive polyimide interface dynamically stabilizes single‐crystal cathodes in sulfide all‐solid‐state batteries. By integrating robust chemical coordination with viscoelastic compliance, this smart coating suppresses parasitic reactions and accommodates cyclic volume expansion.

Quasi-Static Testing of Unreinforced Masonry Walls Using Different Styles of Basalt Fiber Mortar Surface Reinforcements

open access: yesBuildings
To investigate the reinforcement effects of different reinforcement methods including basalt fibers on unreinforced masonry walls (UMWs), this study examined three reinforcement methods: ordinary mortar, basalt fiber mortar, and basalt fiber mesh mortar.

DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM Analyses Implicate the Critical Role of RNA Structural Dynamics in Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus Pathogenicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNA structural profiling of Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus by DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM analyses uncover that viral genome‐wide RSS is highly complicated and heterogeneous, with alternative RSSs widely distributed across the genome. Notably, the viral 3’ tRNA‐like structure adopts alternative conformations in vivo.

Mortar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Access to large amounts of real-world data has long been a barrier to the development and evaluation of analytics applications for the built environment. Open data sets exist, but they are limited in their span (how much data is available) and context (what kind of data is available and how it is described). Evaluation of such analytics is also limited

V2CTx MXene as a Sacrificial Promoter for NiFe Catalyst for Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
These findings demonstrate that V2CTx functions beyond passive conductive support as an active electronic participant whose structural legacy sustains durable performance even after vanadium leaching in Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolysers. ABSTRACT Nickel‐iron layered double hydroxides (NiFe‐LDH) show excellent activity, their poor conductivity

Precisely Printing Perovskite Nanocrystals in Glass via Thermoelectric Synergistic Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on the direct migration and enrichment of Cs ions in glass driven by thermoelectric fields, a novel method has been developed to achieve controllable crystallization and patterned distribution of CsPbBr3 PNCs in stable glass. The distribution scale of PNCs strongly depends on the thermoelectric processing conditions (temperature, electric field ...
