Lime mud from cellulose industry as raw material in cement mortars

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2014
This study reports the use of lime mud (LM) in cement-based-mortars. Lime mud is a waste generated in the production of cellulose by the kraft mill process.

Monitoring the reduction in shrinkage cracking of mortars containing superabsorbent polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is characterized by a low water-to-cement ratio, leading to improved durability and mechanical properties. However, the risk for autogenous shrinkage and cracking due to restrained shrinkage increases, which may ...

Displacive In‐Plane Ferroelectricity with Domain‐Specific Curie Temperature in Van der Waals Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Temperature‐dependent electron diffraction on tin monochalcogenides demonstrates a gradual displacive transformation between ferroelectric and paraelectric phases with significant variability in lattice constants and Curie temperature (TC). Periodic variations exist even between domains in individual crystals, implying a domain‐specific Curie ...

Caracterización arqueométrica de pigmentos y soportes procedentes de pinturas murales góticas (S. XIII-XV)

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio, 2007
A novel investigation on samples of gothic wall paintings (13-15th Centuries) has been carried out. They were found in some Churchs of Slovenia, being not yet studied using technics of materials analysis.

Romanesque and territory. The construction materials of Sardinian medieval churches: new approaches to the valorization, conservation and restoration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper is intended to illustrate a multidisciplinary research project devoted to the study of the constructive materials of the Romanesque churches in Sardinia during the “Giudicati” period (11th -13th centuries).

A Soft, Flexible Implant for Wireless Photothermal–Pyroelectric Neurostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A replication strategy is used to enlarge the exposed surface area of barium titanate within flexible films with embedded carbon nanotubes, enabling efficient photothermal‐pyroelectric stimulation. Polar crystalline nanosheets show superior performance in guiding neural progenitor cells toward neuronal differentiation.

Materials and techniques of Art Nouveau architecture in Italy and Portugal: a first insight for an European route to consistent restoration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The results of the investigations on building materials and techniques of Casa Major Pessoa, a typical Art Nouveau construction in Aveiro (Portugal), and two coeval Art Nouveau buildings in Bologna (Italy) are presented as a methodological contribution

Passivation‐Induced Species Dynamics and Microstructural Evolution in Solid‐State Lithium–Sulfur Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The formation of insulating Li2S during discharge in solid‐state lithium–sulfur batteries passivate reaction sites and limits sulfur utilization. In this work, a microstructure‐resolved modeling framework coupling transport and reaction kinetics is developed to predict charge–discharge behavior and reveal particle‐scale species evolution and incomplete

Development of durable “green” concrete exposed to deicing chemicals via synergistic use of locally available recycled materials and multi-scale modifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
From the economic and social perspectives, the use of waste materials would not be attractive until their costs and quality can satisfy the construction requirements.

3D‐Printed Architected Anisotropic Channels for Ultrafast Solar‐Driven Interfacial Evaporation via Localized Thermal Management and Water Layer Structuring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed anisotropic channel evaporator integrates directional geometry with aligned titanium oxide, boron nitride, and chitosan networks to coordinate photon absorption, heat localization, and water transport. Phonon‐guided thermal pathways and interfacial water structuring enable ultrahigh evaporation rates and long‐term salt‐resistant solar ...
