Consensus recommendations for hyperpolarized [1-13C]pyruvate MRI multi-center human studies. [PDF]

open access: yesMagn Reson Med
Abstract MRI of hyperpolarized (HP) [1‐13C]pyruvate allows in vivo assessment of metabolism and has translated into human studies across diseases at 15 centers worldwide. To determine consensus on best practice for multi‐center studies for development of clinical applications.

A data-driven approach for improved quantification of in vivo metabolic conversion rates of hyperpolarized [1-13C]pyruvate. [PDF]

open access: yesMagn Reson Med
Abstract Purpose Accurate quantification of metabolism in hyperpolarized (HP) 13C MRI is essential for clinical applications. However, kinetic model parameters are often confounded by uncertainties in radiofrequency flip angles and other model parameters.

Hyperpolarized [1-13 C] pyruvate MRSI to detect metabolic changes in liver in a methionine and choline-deficient diet rat model of fatty liver disease. [PDF]

open access: yesMagn Reson Med
Abstract Purpose Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is an important cause of chronic liver disease. There are limited methods for monitoring metabolic changes during progression to steatohepatitis. Hyperpolarized 13C MRSI (HP 13C MRSI) was used to measure metabolic changes in a rodent model of fatty liver disease.

Impact of different training modalities on anthropometric outcomes in patients with obesity: A systematic review and network meta-analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesObes Rev, 2021
Summary Obesity management guidelines consistently advise aerobic training for weight loss, whereas recommendations for other training modalities are sparse. This systematic review and network meta‐analysis (NMA) aimed to compare the long‐term effects of different training modalities on anthropometric outcomes in patients with obesity.

Dietary Antioxidant Intake and Sleep Quality: Combined Effects on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in NHANES 2005-2008 and Mendelian Randomization Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesFood Sci Nutr
Analysis of NHANES data revealed that a higher dietary antioxidant quality score (DAQS) was associated with lower COPD risk, while poor sleep quality (PSQI) was associated with higher risk. The combination of high DAQS and good sleep quality was associated with the greatest risk reduction (OR = 0.45).

Melanoma literacy among the general population of three western US states

open access: yesPigment Cell &Melanoma Research, Volume 36, Issue 6, Page 481-500, November 2023., 2023
Melanoma literacy in our sample was modest, with greater literacy associated with a higher likelihood of reported preventive behavior. This provides guidance for public health campaigns designed to increase prevention and early detection of melanoma. Abstract Melanoma is a significant cause of cancer death, despite being detectable without specialized ...

Contribution of edible flowers to the Mediterranean diet: Phytonutrients, bioactivity evaluation and applications

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 592-630, December 2022., 2022
This review aimed to investigate the knowledge about the use and consumption of edible flowers as part of the Mediterranean cuisine, based on ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological studies especially from the last 10 years, and highlight their uses as a nutritious and functional food.

Effects of a low‐carbohydrate/high‐protein diet on metabolic health in individuals with chronic spinal cord injury: An exploratory analysis of results from a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 10, Issue 22, November 2022., 2022
Our results support a favorable change of the body composition and blood lipid profile after consuming a healthy LC/HP diet for 8 weeks in individuals with chronic SCI. This underscored the importance of dietary modifications for metabolic health in SCI.

Hyperpolarized carbon 13 MRI in liver diseases: Recent advances and future opportunities

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 42, Issue 5, Page 973-983, May 2022., 2022
Abstract Hyperpolarized carbon‐13 magnetic resonance imaging (HP 13C MRI) is a recently translated metabolic imaging technique. With dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (d‐DNP), more than 10 000‐fold signal enhancement can be readily reached, making it possible to visualize real‐time metabolism and specific substrate‐to‐metabolite conversions in ...
