Dysregulated proteolytic cascades in Netherton syndrome: from molecular pathology to preclinical drug testing

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Netherton syndrome (NS) is a rare, severe, and often life‐threatening disease for which current therapeutic approaches are limited and show variable effectiveness. NS is characterized by excessive epidermal desquamation that results in a highly defective epidermal barrier, constitutive skin inflammation, allergies, and hair abnormalities.

Identification of a strain of maize dwarf mosaic virus, related to sugarcane mosaic virus isolated from maize in Burundi [PDF]

open access: yesTropicultura, 1983
A strain of maize dwarf mosaic virus related to sugarcane mosaic virus has been isolated from maize in Burundi. The properties (including electron microscopy and serology) of the virus are described, and elements for a control strategy are reviewed.

Factors influencing Barley Stripe Mosaic Virus-mediated gene silencing in wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) is a technology that has been used primarily to target the virus genome in infected plants. However, if the virus genome carries inserts derived from the host plant, the system could be employed to target the mRNAs ...

The Expanding Role of Gene Sequencing in Shaping Fetal Therapies: Clinical and Ethical Considerations

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In utero interventions are transformative in addressing genetic and anatomic conditions during fetal development. Next generation sequencing enables early genetic testing, playing a pivotal role in prenatal decision‐making by supporting risk stratification, precise and timely diagnosis, which directly informs eligibility for fetal surgical and

Detecting and attributing climate change effects on vegetation: Australia as a test case

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change is contributing to vegetation changes that threaten life support systems. Yet, inherent climatic variability and past and present human actions—such as clearing, burning and grazing regimes—also alter vegetation and complicate understanding of vegetation change. Australian ecosystems exemplify such complexity.

PROTEIN OF TOBACCO MOSAIC VIRUS

open access: yesBiological Reviews, 1963
SummaryA typical infective rod‐shaped particle of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is composed of ribonucleic acid, of molecular weight about 2,000,000 and about 2200 helically arranged protein sub‐units, each with a molecular weight of about 18,000. The sub‐unit is made of a single chain of 158 amino‐acid residues of known sequence.

Deteksi dan Sebaran Soybean Mosaic Virus (SMV) dan Soybean Stunt Virus (SSV) di Berbagai Sentra Produksi Kedelai di Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
There were some commonly found mosaic diseases on soybean in Indonesia that were suspected to be caused by viruses. The main virus diseases of soybean plant are Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and Soybean stunt virus (SSV).

Controlling banana bunchy top disease in Benin: Crop protection strategies with socio‐economic perspectives

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Banana and plantain are vital for food security and income in West Africa, yet banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) threatens production. This study combined remote sensing, field surveys, modelling and socio‐economic analysis to assess BBTV spread and control strategies in Benin.
