TanDEM-X Water Indication Mask: Generation and First Evaluation Results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The German SAR interferometry mission TanDEM-X performed on two TerraSAR-X satellites flying in close formation will provide a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM). A by-product is so-called the Water Indication Mask (WAM).

Mapping Scytonemin Pigment Content and Biocrust Functional Indicators Using High‐Resolution Multispectral Imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that high‐resolution multispectral imagery combined with machine learning can accurately predict key biocrust functional indicators, particularly the UV‐protective pigment scytonemin, across dryland ecosystems. Using fine‐scale imagery acquired in the Chihuahuan Desert and Colorado Plateau, we identified spectral bands strongly ...

Environmental Stressors Influence Spatial Complexity in a Fluvial Macrophyte meadow

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This research investigates the nonlinear relationships between environmental stressors and the fine‐scale spatial complexity of a fluvial macrophytes meadow. The use of multivariate spatial analysis allowed us to identify two major environmental gradients (nutrients and light) and two major complexity gradients (related to abundance and fragmentation).

Electronic still camera processing and mosaicking

open access: yes, 1999
Since 1990, the Deep Submergence Laboratory and Deep Submergence Group of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution have been collecting large quantities of digital imagery and creating digital photomosaics of the sea floor.

Multi‐Vine Disease Prediction in a Field Test Spanning Whole Growth Season at Wine‐Industrial Site (McLaren Vale)

open access: yesArtificial Intelligence for Engineering, EarlyView.
Overall, the findings provide reliable evidence for block‐level disease early warning, inspection prioritisation, and spray decision‐making, helping to reduce unnecessary inputs, lower environmental burdens, and improve the resilience and sustainability of vineyard production systems.

Mosaicking thermal images of buildings

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2013
Nowadays several thermal cameras capture images based on a pinhole camera model. This paper shows how multiple images of flat-like objects or 3D bodies can be mapped and mosaicked with a mathematical formulation between image and object spaces. This work demonstrates that both geometric and radiometric parts need proper mathematical models that allow ...

An Automated Technique for Generating Georectified Mosaics from Ultra-High Resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Imagery, Based on Structure from Motion (SfM) Point Clouds

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2012
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are an exciting new remote sensing tool capable of acquiring high resolution spatial data. Remote sensing with UAVs has the potential to provide imagery at an unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution.

A multi-focus image fusion method via region mosaicking on Laplacian pyramids. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
In this paper, a method named Region Mosaicking on Laplacian Pyramids (RMLP) is proposed to fuse multi-focus images that is captured by microscope. First, the Sum-Modified-Laplacian is applied to measure the focus of multi-focus images.

Multiple ortho‐mosaicking software pipelines produce comparable imagery‐derived wheat phenotypes

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) equipped with multispectral and RGB sensors offer valuable data for monitoring crop health and assessing disease severity. However, the wide range of available photogrammetric software complicates software selection for high‐throughput plant phenotyping.
