What are the vector species of the Oropouche virus?

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Here, we review the timeline of Oropouche virus (OROV) detection in various hematophagous Diptera, from 1955 to date, including mosquitoes and midges. All vector competence experiments also are described. The results suggest that Culicoides are the primary vectors.

Hotspots: Modelling capacity for vector-borne disease risk analysis in New Zealand: A case study of Ochlerotatus camptorhynchus incursions in New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This Hotspots case study of Oc. camptorhynchus in New Zealand forms part of the wider aims and objectives of the Hotspots project. The overall aims of the case study were: 1. To evaluate the performance of the Hotspots model as a risk analysis tool for

The Effect of Rekattidiri Ovitrap Towards Aedes Aegypti Larval Density [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a health problem in Indonesia. The entire region of Indonesia at risk of contracting dengue disease. The study aims to prove the effect of modifications ovitrap rekattidiri on the density of larvae (HI: House Index, CI ...

Experimental assessment of large mammal population estimates from airborne thermal videography

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Wildlife resource management requires reliable, fast, and affordable methods of surveying wildlife populations to develop and adaptively adjust policies. Thermal video from drones can yield high rates of detection over large areas with relative speed and safety.

Exploiting the chemical ecology of mosquito oviposition behavior in mosquito surveillance and control: a review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vector Ecology, 2020
Vector control is an important component of the interventions aimed at mosquito-borne disease control. Current and future mosquito control strategies are likely to rely largely on the understanding of the behavior of the vector, by exploiting mosquito biology and behavior, while using cost-effective, carefully timed larvicidal and high-impact, low ...

Phantasmic Encounters in the Arctic: Haunting Materialities Beyond the Ghosts of War

open access: yesAnthropology of Consciousness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the vast north, ghostly experiences are common for locals and outsiders alike. Here, we explore how cultural‐natural attributes, like remoteness and extreme seasonal variation, compound experiences of the haunting in visceral ways. This provides the Arctic region with an unusually pronounced baseline of other‐than‐human agency, which in the

Mosquito Surveillance for Prevention and Control of Emerging Mosquito-Borne Diseases in Portugal — 2008–2014 [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2014
Mosquito surveillance in Europe is essential for early detection of invasive species with public health importance and prevention and control of emerging pathogens. In Portugal, a vector surveillance national program—REVIVE (REde de VIgilância de VEctores)—has been operating since 2008 under the custody of Portuguese Ministry of Health.

Evaluation of alternative mosquito sampling methods for malaria vectors in Lowland South - East Zambia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sampling malaria vectors and measuring their biting density is of paramount importance for entomological surveys of malaria transmission. Human landing catch (HLC) has been traditionally regarded as a gold standard method for surveying human exposure to ...
