Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Motion feature extraction using magnocellular-inspired spiking neural networks for drone detection

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience
Traditional object detection methods usually underperform when locating tiny or small drones against complex backgrounds, since the appearance features of the targets and the backgrounds are highly similar.

Spatial summation for motion detection

open access: yesVision Research
We used the psychophysical summation paradigm to reveal some spatial characteristics of the mechanism responsible for detecting a motion-defined visual target in central vision. There has been much previous work on spatial summation for motion detection and direction discrimination, but none has assessed it in terms of the velocity threshold or used ...

A model for the detection of moving targets in visual clutter inspired by insect physiology

open access: yes, 2008
We present a computational model for target discrimination based on intracellular recordings from neurons in the fly visual system. Determining how insects detect and track small moving features, often against cluttered moving backgrounds, is an ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Real-time shot detection based on motion analysis and multiple low-level techniques

open access: yes, 2010
To index, search, browse and retrieve relevant material, indexes describing the video content are required. Here, a new and fast strategy which allows detecting abrupt and gradual transitions is proposed.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Real Time Embedded Moving Objects Detector - Study and Implementation Within Virtex FPGA Technology [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Science Journal of Moldova, 2004
This article details the design and the implementation of an efficient real time moving objects detector in the field of view of a fixed camera. The developed algorithm allows a robust motion detection and a considerable reduction in hardware resources ...
