The colon exhibits three types of contractions: individual phasic (short and long duration), organized groups (MMCs and nonmigrating motor complexes), and ultrapropulsive (giant migrating contractions). The individual phasic contractions and the MMCs and nonmigrating motor complexes produce extensive mixing and kneading of fecal material and slow net ...

Development of motor activity in kittens
Developmental Psychobiology, 1980AbstractDevelopmental alterations in motor activity were quantified for the 1st 7 postnatal months in the kitten. Motor activity measured with a stabilimeter was low and constant for the 1st 9 postnatal days, increased markedly until Day 14, and remained stable until Day 21. Locomotor activity measured in an open field decreased slightly during the 1st

Motor and electric activity of the duodenum
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961Recordings of pressure and electric potentials from Biebl loops of the duodenum of trained dogs were used to quantitate and to determine relationships among basic electric rhythm (BER), irregular bursts of spike potentials, and motor action of the duodenum. After control periods, morphine was used to stimulate rhythmic motor activity. The omnipresence

American Review of Respiratory Disease, 2015
Effects of systemically administered protriptyline and diazepam on the respiratory activity of the phrenic, hypoglossal, and recurrent laryngeal nerves were investigated in vagotomized, decerebrate cats.

Motor activity in depressed children
Journal of Affective Disorders, 2011Motor retardation is a cardinal feature in adult depression. Limited information exists about motor activity in depressed children. The present study evaluated motor activity in depressed children compared to controls and investigated whether motor activity can be linked with the severity of symptoms in depressed children.Motor activity during both day-

Motor Activity, Anticipated Motor Activity, and Young Children's Associative Learning
Child Development, 1976The purpose of this study was to determine whether motor activity, previously assumed necessary to induce imagery in young children's associative learning, actually has to be executed. The results of our experiment with kindergartners clearly suggest not: In conditions where subjects simply planned to the potential motor activity (without executing it),

Cooperativity in the motor activities of the ATP-fueled molecular motors
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2005Kinesin, myosin and F1-ATPase are multi-domain molecular motors with multiple catalytic subunits. The motor mechanochemics are achieved via the conversion of ATP hydrolysis energy into forces and motions. We find that the catalysis of these molecular motors do not follow the simple Michaelis-Menten mechanism.

Cyclic motor activity; migrating motor complex: 1985
Gastroenterology, 1985Most of the gastrointestinal tract and the biliary tract have a cyclic motor activity. The electric counterpart of this motor activity is called cyclic myoelectric activity. A typical motor cycle in the LES, stomach, and small intestine is composed of a quiescent state, followed by progressively increasing amplitude and frequency of contractions ...
