The FACTS model of speech motor control: Fusing state estimation and task-based control
We present a new computational model of speech motor control: the Feedback-Aware Control of Tasks in Speech or FACTS model. This model is based on a state feedback control architecture, which is widely accepted in non-speech motor domains.

Analysis of Motor Control in Patients With Low Back Pain: A Key to Personalized Care?
SYNOPSIS Motor control exercise has been shown to be effective in the management of low back pain (LBP). However, the effect sizes for motor control exercise are modest, possibly because studies have used a one-size-fits-all approach, while the ...

A Unifying Pathophysiological Account for Post-stroke Spasticity and Disordered Motor Control
Cortical and subcortical plastic reorganization occurs in the course of motor recovery after stroke. It is largely accepted that plasticity of ipsilesional motor cortex primarily contributes to recovery of motor function, while the contributions of ...

Change-Point Detection of Peak Tibial Acceleration in Overground Running Retraining
A method is presented for detecting changes in the axial peak tibial acceleration while adapting to self-discovered lower-impact running. Ten runners with high peak tibial acceleration were equipped with a wearable auditory biofeedback system.

Cerebellum to motor cortex paired associative stimulation induces bidirectional STDP-like plasticity in human motor cortex [PDF]
The cerebellum is crucially important for motor control and adaptation. Recent non-invasive brain stimulation studies have indicated the possibility to alter the excitability of the cerebellum and its projections to the contralateral motor cortex, with ...

Motor Control and Learning: A Behavioral Emphasis, 6th Edition
Natural laws express the relationships between certain variables called state variables. Constrained by natural laws these variables cannot be specified directly by the nervous system, as illustrated by the failure of the force control theory that relies ...

The impact of motor symptoms on self-reported anxiety in Parkinson's disease [PDF]
OBJECTIVE: Anxiety is commonly endorsed in Parkinson's disease (PD) and significantly affects quality of life. The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) is often used but contains items that overlap with common PD motor symptoms (e.g., “hands trembling”). Because

Corticocortical Systems Underlying High-Order Motor Control
Cortical networks are characterized by the origin, destination, and reciprocity of their connections, as well as by the diameter, conduction velocity, and synaptic efficacy of their axons. The network formed by parietal and frontal areas lies at the core

Loads on the Knee Joint Ligaments during Stair Climbing
Background. Stair climbing is often performed by people in daily life and requires considerable energy and muscle effort. This task has been widely described in the literature, but the role of the knee joint ligaments has not been sufficiently ...
