Pulsewidth Modulated Inverter Motor Drives with Improved Modulation
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1975The performance of inverter drives, which use the pulsewidth modulated (PWM) technique to control motor applied voltage and frequency, are critically influenced by the choice of the modulation policy used in the control circuits. This paper deals with practical inverter drives for squirrel cage induction motors and presents some basic considerations on

Stability limits modulate whole-body motor learning
Journal of Neurophysiology, 2012Our daily movements exert forces upon the environment and also upon our own bodies. To control for these forces, movements performed while standing are usually preceded by anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs). This strategy is effective at compensating for an expected perturbation, as it reduces the need to compensate for the perturbation in a ...

Diaphragm afferent modulation of phrenic motor drive
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1987Experiments were performed in eight lightly anesthetized thiopental sodium (Pentothal) cats to examine whether diaphragmatic afferents can significantly alter the neural drive to the diaphragm when the animal is exposed to lower body negative pressure.

Modulation of somatosensory perception by motor intention
Cognitive Neuroscience, 2011The intention to execute a movement can modulate our perception of sensory events; however, theoretical accounts of these effects, and also empirical data, are often contradictory. We investigated how perception of a somatosensory stimulus differed according to whether it was delivered to a limb being prepared for movement or to a nonmoving limb.

Serotonergic modulation of locust motor neurons
Journal of Neurophysiology, 19951. The effects of the putative endogenous neuromodulator serotonin (5-HT) on the fast extensor and flexor tibiae motor neurons in the locust (Schistocerca gregaria) metathoracic ganglion, were analyzed. 2. 5-HT consistently increased the duration of the fast extensor spike and usually reduced the afterhyperpolarization, although this effect was less ...

Robotic endoscope motor module and gearing design
2011 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2011Actuation of a robotic endoscope with increased torque output is presented. This paper will specifically focus on the motor module section of a robotic endoscope, which comprises of a pair of motors and gear reduction assemblies. The results for the endoscope and biopsy tool stiffness, as well as the stall force and force versus speed characteristics ...

Effector-specific motor activation modulates verb production
Neuroscience Letters, 2012Language comprehension studies have demonstrated that effector-specific activation of the motor system supports the representation of word meaning. The aim of the present study was to test whether motor activation is also relevant for verb production.

Biomolecular Motor Modulates Mechanical Property of Microtubule
Biomacromolecules, 2014The microtubule (MT) is the stiffest cytoskeletal filamentous protein that takes part in a wide range of cellular activities where its mechanical property plays a crucially significant role. How a single biological entity plays multiple roles in cell has been a mystery for long time.

Experience modulates motor imagery‐based brain activity
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2018AbstractWhether or not brain activation during motor imagery (MI), the mental rehearsal of movement, is modulated by experience (i.e. skilled performance, achieved through long‐term practice) remains unclear. Specifically,MIis generally associated with diffuse activation patterns that closely resemble novice physical performance, which may be ...

Efficiency measurement using a motor–dynamo module
Physics Education, 2009In this article, we describe a simple method which can be used to measure the efficiency of a low power dc motor, a motor-converted dynamo and a coupled motor–dynamo module as a function of the speed of rotation. The result can also be used to verify Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.
