Role of motorcycle type in fatal motorcycle crashes

Journal of Safety Research, 2010
Motorcycles vary in design and performance capability, and motorcyclists may select certain motorcycle types based on driving preferences. Conversely, motorcycle performance capability may influence the likelihood of risky driving behaviors such as speeding. Both mechanisms may affect fatal crash risk when examined by motorcycle type.

The Motorcycle Syndrome

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1970
The author presents findings of an in-depth study of nine accident-prone motorcyclists and outlines a previously undescribed syndrome in an attempt to elucidate the psychological causes of the rapidly rising rate of motorcycle accidents and deaths. Examining the reasons why the motorcycle is particularly dangerous to these patients, the author explores

On optimal motorcycle braking

Control Engineering Practice, 2008
The optimal braking strategy in a high-performance motorbike is discussed. First, the control strategy using the front brake only is analyzed, highlighting the role of aerodynamics and studying how to select and modify the control objective during braking.

THE MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1971
DURING 1968, 3,780 MOTORCYCLES WERE REGISTERED IN MONROE COUNTY, NEW YORK; AT LEAST 207 OPERATORS AND 19 PASSENGERS WERE INVOLVED IN PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS, INCLUDING FIVE FATALITIES. MANY FACTORS CAUSED OR CONTRIBUT*ED TO THE ACCIDENTS, ACCORDING TO POLICE REPORTS.

Achievable motorcycle trajectories

2004 43rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37601), 2004
The authors show that a (simple, nonholonomic) motorcycle can exactly track a large class of smooth trajectories in the plane. Instability and nontrivial dynamic coupling make the exploration of aggressive motorcycle trajectories a rather challenging task.

Motorcycle Graphs and Straight Skeletons

Algorithmica, 2007
We present a new algorithm to compute motorcycle graphs. It runs in $O(n \sqrt{n}\log n)$ time when n is the number of motorcycles. We give a new characterization of the straight skeleton of a nondegenerate polygon. For a polygon with n vertices and h holes, we show that it yields a randomized algorithm that reduces the straight skeleton computation to

The Motorcycle as a Psychological Tool

Psychological Reports, 1977
The potential value of a motorcycle for psychological assessment and intervention with youth is described. The speculations were based primarily on observational data obtained from a 2-yr. period as a staff member in a minibike program.
